The Lincoln Zephyr, currently known as the Lincoln MKZ, is the latest mid size entry level luxury car entry from Ford' luxury vehicle division, Lincoln. The Lincoln Zephyr was first sold in 2006 and sales of the car have been good.
The Lincoln Zephyr, now known as the Lincoln MKZ name has been used in older models in the Lincoln lineup. In 2006, Lincoln revived the name for its mid size luxury car line. The Lincoln Zephyr was intended to be sold along with the Ford Fusion and the Mercury Milan, rounding up the available mid size cars from Ford with a mid size luxury car model. All of the three vehicles are based on the CD3 platform and thus, all of the three vehicles share a number of similarities with each other. Interestingly, the CD3 platform is Mazda derived so that the three cars shares a basic architecture with the Mazda 6. Aesthetically, the Ford Fusion, the Mercury Milan and the Lincoln Zephyr have a quite similar profile with each other. It has been estimated that the Lincoln Zephyr bears a similarity of about 35% with the Ford Fusion and the Mercury Milan in terms of body panels. The most visible variation which differentiates the Lincoln Zephyr from the other two cars is the different design of its fascia. The interior of the Lincoln Zephyr is entirely different from the other two cars, however. The level of luxury and the number of features available for the Lincoln Zephyr is what truly separates it from the Ford Fusion and the Mercury Milan. In the mid size luxury market, the Lincoln Zephyr does not make it to the top and is not very competent with the class leaders. Sales of the Lincoln Zephyr has been good mainly because of the Lincoln brand perception and the lower price of the Lincoln Zephyr which makes it an enticing entry level luxury mid size car model.
The Lincoln Zephyr is a 4 door sedan with a front engine front wheel drive layout. The car is also available as a four wheel drive starting from the 2007 car model year. The engine used for the Lincoln Zephyr during the 2006 car model year was a Duratec 30 3.0 litre V6 engine. The 2007 Lincoln Zephyr features a Duratec 35 3.5 litre V6 engine. There is only one available transmission for the Lincoln Zephyr which is a 6 speed automatic transmission. Standard equipment for the Lincoln Zephyr include traction control, ABS, curtain side airbags and front side airbags. The interior of the Lincoln Zephyr come standard with luxury wood trim and leather upholstery. Optional features for the Lincoln Zephyr include sunroof, a navigation system, xenon headlamps and cooled front seats. On the road, the Lincoln Zephyr performs below average for its class. Acceleration is adequate but with low passing power. The automatic shifting is quick on up shifts but hesitant on down shifts. Bump handling is also good, covering up most of the road bumps but not quite as sophisticated as the average mid level luxury contenders. Handling is responsive and the Lincoln Zephyr can handle fast cornering without any drama. Fuel efficiency is average in its class.
The Lincoln Zephyr is a good mid size luxury car but its not quite there yet. Other models are more highly recommended. Headlights by State: ______________________
