The Suzuki XL-7 was a mid size SUV introduced by Suzuki in 2001. The vehicle has been in continuous production since 2001 and has gone through two generations of the production with the second generation of the Suzuki XL-7 going through a complete redesign and renamed as the Suzuki XL7, the hyphen removed.
The first generation of the Suzuki XL-7 was based on the Grand Vitara. It was released into the mid size SUV car market and was based on a stretched Grand Vitara platform. The first generation of the Suzuki XL-7 was designed solely by Suzuki and, upon release, the SUV sold quite well in the market. This was primarily due to the low price tag of the Suzuki XL-7. In fact, on its release, the Suzuki XL-7 offered the lowest price tag in the mid size SUV with a three row seating market. However, competitors soon caught up with the Suzuki XL-7, offering better features, better performance and lowered prices. This led to a decrease in sales for the Suzuki XL-7. For the 2007 model of the Suzuki XL-7, Suzuki partnered with General motors to build the new model of the SUV. The Suzuki XL-7 had the hyphen removed from its name and was now called the Suzuki XL7. It shared the same platform as other GM SUVs such as the Pontiac Torrent and the Chevy Equinox. However, it still offered third row seating. The Suzuki XL7 was also moved from the mid size SUV market to the crossover SUV segment and is the first crossover SUV offered by Suzuki.
The latest model of the Suzuki XL-7 is the 2007 Suzuki XL7. This time around, the design of the Suzuki XL7 is based on designs from General Motors. The engine available for the Suzuki XL7 is a V6 engine capable of an output of 252 hp. There is only a single transmission available for the Suzuki XL7 is a 5 speed automatic transmission. The Suzuki XL7 is available in base, Special, Luxury and Limited trim options. Depending on the trim, the Suzuki XL7 is available with either a front wheel drive or an all wheel drive. Basic features of the Suzuki XL7 include traction control, ABS and anti-skid system. The Suzuki XL7 offers great acceleration with its very capable engine. It also has a relatively average gas consumption rating. The suspension of the Suzuki XL7 is more on the soft side which gives the Suzuki XL7 a soft ride which is prone to rough bumps. Handling is acceptable though the Suzuki XL7 is prone to body lean during deep turns.
The Suzuki XL-7 is offered with a relatively low price tag. This, along with its good set of features gives the Suzuki XL-7 good value for money.
