The Volvo 145 was the estate model of the popular Volvo 140 series of car models. Sales for the Volvo 145 were good during its production period along with the other two car models of the Volvo 140 car model series. Volvo moved to naming their car models in a three digit format starting from 1966. The first car models from Volvo to use this particular were the Volvo 140 series. The Volvo 140 series was also the first car models from Volvo which featured a boxy design, a step away from the curved body style of earlier volvo car models. The nomenclature of the Volvo 140 car models were arranged in such a way that the numbers used for the name of the car would indicate several major details about the car. The first digit position showed the series of the car, the second position showed the cylinders of the engine and the last digit position showed the doors of the car. Using this nomenclature, it can be deduced that the Volvo 145 was a first series car model, that it had a four cylinder engine and that this particular Volvo 140 series model had five doors. Of the Volvo 140 models, the Volvo 145 was the biggest model available. It's estate wagon body style proved to be quite popular among car buyers. Volvo also produced a version of the Volvo 145 with a high roof which was called the "Express". This high roofed Volvo 145 was Volvo's replacement for the Volvo Duett. The not quite contemporary styling of the Volvo 145 Express earned itself a niche market and coachbuilders even built similarly high roofed version of the successor of the Volvo 145, the 245. Like the other car models under the Volvo 140 series, the Volvo 145 featured many similarities with the Volvo Amazon. It carried the same 85 hp four cylinder engine and featured many similar components in the drivetrain. However, Volvo did introduce many upgrades in the drivetrain of the Volvo 145 and its siblings. Among the upgrades was the inclusion of disc brakes on all four wheels of the car. The Volvo 145, as the estate body type model of the Volvo 140 series, was the largest and heaviest of the series's car models. The car retained many similarities with the other Volvo 140 series car models, however. This included the split grill design on the front, the boxy design cues and similar engines and drive train components. Like its two other siblings in the Volvo 140 series, the Volvo 145 also featured an impressive safety-conscious construction which was quite rare at the time. The Volvo 145 featured strengthened doors for protection from side impact, bumpers that absorb shock and can survive a 5 mph impact without damaging the body of the car and a padded steering wheel which was specifically designed to reduce the risk of chest injury during a collision. Classic appeal is the main selling point of the Volvo 145. It's durability, reliability and safety record are also nothing to be scoffed at. . Headlights by State: ______________________
