The Volvo 144 was the sedan car bodied model of the venerable Volvo 140 series of car models. The Volvo 144 belonged to the first series which is it's name started with a 1. The mid-position number 4 indicated the four cylinder engine used by the car. The last number 4 indicated the four door layout of the car. Along with the other models of the Volvo 140 series, the Volvo 144 was first sold during the 1967 model year. Sales of the car continued until the 1974 model year. Throughout its production period, the Volvo 144 and the Volvo 140 series sold quite well and became popular for their durability, reliability and performance. The drive train of the Volvo Amazon and the Volvo 140 series also shared many parts. However, Volvo introduced many improvements in the drive train of the Volvo 140 car models which were not present in the Volvo Amazon. The Volvo 144 and the other car models of the Volvo 140 series were also revolutionary for the safety features integrated into their design which included body reinforcements which helped to lessen the fatality of severe car collisions. The Volvo 144 presents an interesting buy for car buyers who are looking for a classic car or even a daily driver.
