The Volvo 142 was a model from Volvo belonging in their 140 series which was first produced in 1966. The Volvo 140 series were notable vehicles because of their introduction of several vehicle safety features which later became standard equipment for vehicles. In 1966, Volvo introduced the Volvo 140 series. Volvo Cars began making the cars at Torslandaverken during the later days of the summer of 1966, with the aim of releasing the car models for model year 1967. The cars were to continue in production up to the 1974 model year. The Volvo 142 started the trend of Volvo in using a three digit naming scheme for their car models. The nomenclature indicated the series of the car, the number of cylinders in the engine and the number of doors. Thus, the Volvo 142 indicated that the car model belonged to series one, had four cylinders and was a two door vehicle. The Volvo 142 was the 2 door coupe body model of the Volvo 140 series. The Volvo 140 series featured three body styles which shared similar design features and mechanical components. The Volvo 142 basically had the same front end and overall design with the Volvo 144 and Volvo 145, the other two car body models in the Volvo 140 series. The three cars featured a boxy shape with a diagonally split grill which became a unique mark of Volvo car models and which was carried on in modern Volvo cars. Even the basic shape of the Volvo 140 series survived up to the 1990s, though they were no longer the 140 series. The Volvo 142, along with its siblings in the Volvo 140 series, were very well reserved in most Volvo car markets. The Volvo 140 series of car models received the honor of being named as the car of the year in 1966 by Teknikens Varld, a magazine in Sweden. Mechanically, the Volvo 142 shared a lot of components with the other Volvo 140 car models. Understandably, the Volvo 142, being a coupe, had a smaller body and overall weight and length compared to the sedan and estate models of the Volvo 140 series. The first models of the Volvo 140 series used the same B18 85 hp engine which was used in the Volvo Amazon. In later years, the Volvo Amazon also received the same B20 two litre engine used in the Volvo 140 series of cars. The Volvo 140 series also had similar drive train components with the Volvo Amazon. However, the Volvo 140 series benefited from several improvements to the drive train which included four wheel disk brakes. The Volvo 142 is a classic Volvo car model nowadays and is value mainly for its age. As a result, the Volvo 142 receives a lot of interest because of its classic status. The Volvo 142 is also a car model which has become a favorite among car tuners. This is mainly due to the old school charm of the car which is made more prominent by its hard to miss boxy design. For car buyers looking for a daily driver, the Volvo 142 is also known for its reliability and durability which makes the car a solid buy. . Headlights by State: ______________________
