The fourth largest car producing company in the whole world is based in Wolfsburg, Germany. The Volkswagen Passenger Cars has been in existence for almost a century. The name of the company is German for “people car” true to its dedication of providing the best cars to people from all walks of life. Its current tagline is Das Auto that in English means The Car. The company racks up about 73.94 EURO in 2007 as compared to its 1.94 billion EURO operating costs. The company services the worldwide market and basing on their year income, they are bound to stay in this market for lifetimes and lifetimes.

The humble beginnings of this superpower of a motoring company started in 1933 with Adolf Hitler’s interest in cars. On June 22, 1934, he officially hired Ferdinand Porsche to create the People’s car. Among the various innovation installed are better fuel efficiency, reliability, ease-of-use, and economically efficient repairs and parts. On May 30, 1937, the Volkswagen Company was established. The factory in Wolfsburg was established the year after. With Germany’s defeat in the World war, the new company was captured by the Americans and was handed over to the British. Major Ivan Hirst salvaged what could be saved of the factory, painted one car green and presented it to the British Army Headquarters. They loved and soon after that, they requested for the factory to make 20,000 models because they were short of cars. By 1946, the monthly average of cars made went as high as 1000. This was followed by the change of pre-war names of the car and town to “Volkswagen” and “Wolfsburg” respectively. The influence of the slow recovery of West Germany was partly because of the car company. In 1948, a former Senior Manager at Opel by the name of Heinrich Nordhoff took over operations of the company. That year, they were able to introduce the Volkswagen Type 2 commercial vehicle and the VW Karmann Ghia. However, after that year, Nordhoff imposed a rule of a one-model launch per year. They first showcased and sold their model cars in the US starting 1949. In 1955, they officially installed an American division known as Volkswagen America to standardize and sales. Their production of the Type 1 Volkswagen Beetle increased dramatically over the years, the total reaching one million in 1955. Sales also soared, thanks to the advertising efforts spearheaded Doyle, Dane Bernbach. During the decades of 1960’ to 1970’s, continuous outpour of sales progressed even with outdated models thanks to reliability and exceptional advertising. By 1973, total production reached 16 million. Although there were highs and lows in the sales of their cars, they have managed to bounce through it all. Currently, it is among the top five car manufacturers of the whole world.

The Golf, the Eos, the Passat, the Touareg, and the Tiguan are among the more popular models. The Golf is practically one of the best selling Volkswagen cars that has undergone years of changes and innovations. The Eos is four-seater retractable hardtop coupe convertible that was introduced in 2006. The Passat is a family car that has been in the market since 1973. The Touareg is a mid-size sport utility vehicle. Lastly, the Tiguan is a compact crossover sports utility vehicle.

The future models include the forthcoming Volkswagen Passat CC, a 4-door "coupe" version of the Passat.

With its popularity in the motoring arena as well as racetrack market, there is no doubt of the sustainability of the Volkswagen cars. We are enjoined to expect more state-of-the-art models in the future.
