As Volvo began the strategy of naming its cars according to size and style, the first generation of the full-size station wagon V70 was introduced. In 1998, the recent innovation of the Volvo 850, which debut in 1993 was christened as Volvo V70. The letter “V” stands for “versatility” with which Volvo identified their station wagon line. The “s” represents the sedan series, while the “C” is for the coupes. The number that comes after the categorical letter represents the vehicle size.
