Introduced at the 2004 North American Show as a station wagon version of Volvos small family car S40, the all new Volvo V50 was packaged in a sporty design packed with safety features and spacious luggage area. The Volvo V50 is a 5-door model with rounded nose and rooflines, short hood, extremely abrupt tail, and cab-forward design gives the vehicle a modern sporty look which will surely appeal to the younger market. Compared to its predecessor, the V40, the V50 station wagon has a wheelbase that is 78mm longer and is 54mm wider and 27mm taller. As a result, it is gifted with the renowned Volvo road manners with its extended track and long wheelbase. The wheels are positioned further out at each corner and the cab-forward design and the crosswise placement of the engine also help create a more spacious compartment. Similar the larger V70, the V50 has a split-folding rear seat, forward-folding passenger seat, and a 1307L boot. Also, this vehicle has a convenient roof rails to hold extra luggage. There are two trim levels available for the Volvo V50. The base 2.4i has16-inch alloy wheels, leather covered tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a CD player and full power accessories. On the other hand, the T5's additions include power driver seat and an automatic climate control. Moreover, all models feature the following standard feature: reliable air conditioning, emergency brake assist, and stability traction control. Also, Volvo gives buyers a variety of options to make the V50 personalized and more luxurious such as 17-inch wheels, a moonroof, a premium surround-sound audio system, and a navigation system. Under the hood, there are two 5-cylinder engine choices: the 2.5L which generates 218 hp and 236 ft-lb is a standard on the top-of-the-line turbocharged T5 all-wheel-drive models, while the 2.4L engine which generates 168hp and 170 lb-ft of torque the standard engine on the 2.4i. All models come are equipped with the 5speed transmission. But still, with either engine, this upscale station wagon is practical as it is stylish. And of course, no Volvo would be complete without an abundance of safety features. Thus, this vehicle is packed with side-impact and head curtain airbags, active head restraints and optional built-in booster seats for children. By 2008, upgrades were made on Volvo V50. The 2.5L engine was juiced up, and audio components were updated. Moreover, more safety features were introduced such as the emergency brake lights, which flash in the event of a sudden halt, and the optional Blind Spot Information System, which enables you to drive smoothly without having to look over your shoulder every now and then. And to top it all off, Volvos innovative Intelligent Driver Information System (IDIS), which was inspired by a fighter aircraft technology, is another of its best safety features. It helps drivers avoid distraction by delaying warning lamps and ignoring phone calls when it detects a challenging driving situation and will resume everything that it barred as soon as the driver returns to its normal driving. To wrap it all up, Volvos V50 is very efficient in its performance, utility, and quality. It is the ideal family car in which Volvo not only provides you with a very luxurious and comfortable ride, but always keeps your protection and well-being in mind. .
