GMC Typhoon Headlights: Find Your Replacement Typhoon Headlight Assembly

The GMC Typhoon is the GMC’s high performance version of its own GMC Jimmy SUV. All its features were based on the GMC Jimmy. The Typhoon delivers the same power and performance as of the 1991 GMC Syclone pickup truck. Like the Syclone, the GMC Typhoon also delivers sports car-like performance in an SUV construction.

The Production Automotive Services based in Troy, Michigan made the Typhoon for the General Motors. This is the same company that built the GMC Syclones and GMC Sonoma GT. The GMC Typhoon was in production in the years 1992 and 1993 producing a total of 4,697 units. A total of 2,497 were produced in 1992 and only 2,200 were built in 1993 up to its cease of production. The Typhoon was bargained at US$ 29,970. The Typhoons serve as pickup trucks and SUVs that are mainly used for hauling cargos and are even used in some car races because of its extra quick acceleration that are even compared to the performance of top race cars such as Corvette and Ferrari.

The Typhoon’s performance is a responsibility of the 4.3-liter LB4 turbocharged V6 engine and the 4-speed 4L60 automatic transmission. Like the Syclone, the Typhoon also used the same turbocharger—the Mitsubishi TD06-17C/8cm2. The GMC Typhoon also featured a Garrett water/air intercooler in the V6 engine. The LB4 V6 engine used in Typhoon features forged pistons, head gaskets, main caps, fuel system, intake manifolds, exhaust manifolds, and its 48 mm twin-bore throttle body that is also used in 5.7-liter GM Small-Block engine. The Typhoon used the GM 700 R4 transmission (4L60), a 4-speed automatic transmission. Its four-wheel drive capacity was supplied by the Borg Warner 1372/4472 transfer case that splits the torque giving its 35% to the front and 65% to the rear. This 4WD system gives the feel of driving an ordinary rear wheel drive. Typhoon also used upgraded brakes and sport modified suspensions like the self-leveling rear suspension that is not featured in the GMC Syclone. The power output of the Typhoon was officially recorded at 280 hp with some stock models that can provide a maximum of 300 hp. As compared to the Ferrari 348ts, Nissan 300ZX Turbo, and Chevrolet Corvette, the GMC Typhoon can deliver a favorable performance and can accelerate from 0-60 mph within 5.3 seconds. The Typhoon can also cover a quarter mile in 14.1 seconds while running at 95 mph. The Car and Driver magazine was amazed by this stunning performance of the GMC Typhoon and lined it with the top sports car in the world. The Typhoon was a hit amidst its mostly plastic interiors that always catch the attention of the GMC Typhoon critics.

The GMC Typhoon is a sport car disguising as a sport utility vehicle. It can do all the works of a standard SUV and pick up and at the same time can also be used as a racecar. The Typhoon models are now available as used car models with the same performance that was once the best during their times.
