The Toyota Tacoma is the entry of Toyota Motor Company in the compact pickup truck segment of the North American car markets. The truck was first introduced to the market in 1995 and has been in continuous production ever since. It has been a very successful vehicle model for Toyota. The Toyota Tacoma is based on the Toyota Hilux, a worldwide truck model from Toyota which was sold in the United States under the marque "Toyota Truck". In the North American market, the Toyota Hilux was discontinued in 1995 and was promptly replaced with the Toyota Tacoma. Since its introduction, the Toyota Tacoma has been a market success and is one of the highest selling vehicle models in the lineup of Toyota. It is also one of the best selling compact trucks in the North American market. The Toyota Tacoma has also become one of the most iconic compact trucks in the United States in recent years. The Toyota Tacoma can be modified with after market parts through TRD or Toyota Racing Development. The truck can be modified with either the sports package which is geared towards street sports use or the off road package which is geared towards off road use. These after market upgrades have been very popular and have added to the positive perception of the Toyota Tacoma. Notable, the Toyota Tacoma has also seen use in the U.S. Army by its special forces units. The Toyota Tacoma vehicles used by them have been heavily modified for their particular use. The Toyota Tacoma has gone through two generations since its first production in 1995. The first generation of the Toyota Tacoma was available with a 2.4 litre I4 engine with an output of 142 hp, a 2.7 litre I4 engine with an output of 150 hp and a 3.4 litre V6 engine with an output of 190 hp. These were mated to either a 4 speed automatic or a 5 speed manual transmission. The second generation of the Toyota Tacoma is now available with either a 2.7 litre I4 engine capable of 159 hp or a 4.0 litre V6 engine with an output of 236 hp. Transmissions available are a 4 speed automatic, a 5 speed automatic, a 5 speed manual and a 6 speed manual transmission. On the road, the second generation Toyota Tacoma offers a better, more responsive ride with the V6 engine. The I4 engine is adequate in most situations but it can be underpowered especially in situations where a lot of power is needed. The manual transmission is a better choice for those who want a more responsive and powerful ride. However, the automatic transmission is also decently done. It finds the right gear fairly well and shifts up and down fairly quick when needed. The suspension of the Toyota Tacoma also easily handles road bumps but off road driving can be on the bouncy side. Handling is also very responsive and is almost car like. Quick turns can generate some body lean which is just about par in its class. The Toyota Tacoma offers a very competitive package in its class. There is little reason why anyone would pick another truck over the Toyota Tacoma. . Headlights by State: ______________________
