The Acura TL is the mid sized luxury vehicle of the Acura line of cars. It was originally introduced as the successor of the Acura Vigor. The Acura Vigor is primarily available in the North American Market. In other markets, the car is released under the Honda brand name as the Saber or the Inspire. From The Acura TL is among the top sellers of the Acura car company overall. It is also among the best selling cars in the luxury sedan line in the united states.
The Acura TL is among the most successful cars of the Acura lineup. It has gone through four generations of production, the fourth generation being the planned release of a the 2009 Acura TL which will be based on the 2008 Honda Accord platform. The first generation of the Acura TL was first rolled out of the assembly line in March of 1995. However, the car was released as a 1996 model. The second generation of the Acura TL was made available in 1999. Through the years of 1999 to 2003, new Acura TL models were released every year with minor design changes. In 1993, the Acura TL Type-S A-SPEC had a limited release in the Canadian car market. These models were differentiated from the regular Acura TL Type-S by several cosmetic upgrades such as leather accents, model specific wheels and side turning markers among other changes. The first third generation models of the Acura TL got off the assembly lines on the second half of 2003. Production of the third generation Acura TL continues until the 2008 model which is designated as the last model of the third generation of Acura TLs. The fourth generation of the Acura TL is planned for release in 2009 which will be followed with a Type-S version in later months.
Technically, the Acura TL is a very sound car, taking cues from the successes of the early Acura models such as the Acura Legend and the Acura Vigor. Developed as a luxury car, the Acura TL nevertheless is a very sporty car offering a responsive and solid ride with a powerful engine under the hood. The first Acura TL to come out carried a 2.5 litre SOHC 5-cylinder 20-valve engine which delivered 176hp. This engine was a carry over from the Acura Vigor. A second model of Acura TL was later released which carried the 3.2 liter SOHC V6 24-valve engine of the Acura Legend which was capable of an output of 200hp. The second generation of the Acura TL debuted in 1999 and newly designed V6 SOHC VTEC J32 2.3 litre engine. The third generation of the Acura TL had a 3.2 litre SOHC VTEC 24-valve V6 engine that deliverd 270 hp. With the third generation Acura TL, a TL A-SPEC was also offered which was a tuned version of the Acura TL featuring a several tuning enhancements including tuned suspensions, an underbody kit and a 18" wheels.
There is a reason why the Acura TL is such a fast selling car. The Acura TL is a luxury car that can run like a sports car. Like most Acura models, the Acura TL is also quite stable and reliable. On the road, the car can handle itself quite well. This is definitely a great car for a first buy.
