Suzuki Motor Corporation is the twelfth largest car manufacturing company in the world. It is a conglomerate produces a lot of different things apart from cars including compact automobiles, a full range of motorcycles, All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), outboard marine engines, wheelchairs and a variety of other small internal combustion engines. It was founded in 1909 and currently, is headquartered in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, Japan. As of date, it employs over 45,000 people, has 35 main production facilities in 23 countries and 133 distributors in 192 countries all over the world. Its American counterpart is based in Brea, California and has been selling their brands in partnership with GMC.
The history of the company dates back as far as 1909. Back then, the company was still known as Suzuki Loom Works as founded by Michio Suzuki. In 1920, the company has undergone reorganization, was incorporated and capitalized at 500,000 yen with a new name Suzuki Loom Manufacturing Co. and a new President Michio Suzuki. In 1954, with another change of name, the company is now known as Suzuki Motor Co., Ltd. In 1955, they introduced an industry first with the Suzulight that started the light-car age in Japan. In 1962, they won the 50 cc class championship in Isle of Man TT. A year later, they opened a direct sales subsidiary in the US based in Los Angeles. In 1967, they have established a Thai assembly plant thereby signifying the booming market in that country. A year later, they have released the Carry full-cab van. In 1973, they opened their initial operations in Canada known as Suzuki Canada Ltd., based in Ontario, Canada. A year later, they have opened their market in Indonesia via the P.T. Suzuki Indonesia Manufacturing. In 1975, a Philippine branch was opened via the Antonio Suzuki Corporation. In 1980, they have extended their market to Australian Territories via the Suzuki Australia Pty. Ltd. In 1984, they again conquered another Oceania country, New Zealand, by way of Suzuki New Zealand Ltd. established in Wanganui, New Zealand. In 1985, they have finally opened a full subsidiary in the US based in California. From then on, the sales have increased and the market has widened even more. In fact, the sold as much as 30 million cumulative automobile sales for worldwide market and America's number one warranty in 2002 alone. There is practically no stopping the rampage that is Suzuki. In the future, the consumers are bound to see more of the wonderful cars they are about to design.
Among the most popular models of Suzuki includes the Swift, the Grand Vitara, the Sidekick and the Carry. The Carry is officially known as the L60V and is marketed as a microvan and pickup truck. The Swift is a supermini that is very popular in various countries all over the world making it one of the top selling models. The Grand Vitara is a compact SUV that has been figured in racing events in the past. The Sidekick was small off-road vehicle produced from 1989-2004.
