The Toyota Supra was a Toyota manufactured sports car. The car was in production from 1979 up to 2002. It was a very popular sports car for many car enthusiasts and still maintains an active following.

The Toyota Supra was engineered and produced to be the sports car and a grand tourer. Many of the design cues of the Toyota Supra were taken from the oyota Celica. However, the Toyota Supra featured a wider and longer body. Even so, the Toyota Supra was considered to be a vehicle that was based on the Toyota Celica and was named the Toyota Celica Supra. However, by 1986, the Toyota Supra was formally separated from its Celica roots. Thus, the car was now renamed as simply the Toyota Supra. Some of the origins of the Toyota Supra can also be traced to the Toyota 2000GT. The engine used in the Toyota Supra was directly related to the M engine of the Toyota 2000GT. The Toyota Supra enjoyed a large following the United States car market. It is an iconic car which has reached cult status among street racers. It is often modified for performance for use in street racing. The Toyota Supra was discontinued in the United States car market in 1999. However, production of the car still continued in Japan until it was ultimately stopped in 2002. Due to the popularity of the car, rumors of reviving the Toyota Supra car line has been circulating ever since the car was discontinued. However, none of these rumors have been substantiated and, up to now, there does not seem to be any interest in Toyota in reviving the Supra marque. The planned sport hybrid vehicle is the latest target for Supra revival rumors. There has still been no official statement about Toyota regarding the matter.

The Toyota Supra was built from the ground up to be a serious sports car. With the later models of the car, Toyota went full throttle and released the Toyota Supra with a full complement of sports car styling, from the engine to the suspension to the design of the body of the car. The Toyota Supra has always carried capable engines under its hood. The last models of the Toyota Supra featured 3.0 litre I6 engines and was available with a 4 speed automatic, a 5 speed manual or a 6 speed manual transmission. The acceleration of the Toyota Supra was something that most drivers had to get used to. At low engine speeds, power took time to ramp up. However, once the Turbo of the engine activates, the Toyota Supra dramatically surged with power. Many drivers found this to be an interesting characteristic of the vehicle. Others found it to be an annoyance especially in city driving. The sports suspension of the Toyota Supra gave it a road hugging profile. It could easily take care of regular road bumps and performed like it was glued on the road when running on smooth asphalt.

The Toyota Supra is a good choice for an affordable sports car. Though not as qualified as some of its competitors, the Toyota Supra does have its strengths.
