Dodge Spirit is known to provide a reliable means of transportation, perfect for daily commutes and for long drives. Although it may look like a traditional four-door sedan, it is actually an expanded version of the Reliant. Spirit is sporting a 224-horsepower engine with a 218 lb-ft torque, which is based on their old configuration of the 93 horsepower 2.2 L engine. Marketed as a family vehicle, Dodge Spirit features a sleek spoiler and decal of a fender trim, making it look distinctly stylish for a family car. However, unlike other grocery-getters, it moves for up to 60 times faster than conventional sedans. With the later Spirit versions such as the Spirit R/T, this ride also enjoyed a top of speed of up to 141 miles per hour with a net horsepower of 1-67 per cubic inch. These features have made Dodge Spirit one of the major sellers among Dodge’s car lineups.
The greatness that was known to be Dodge Spirit was first introduced in January 1989. Although it is claimed as closely identical to the Plymouth Acclaim, its wider and longer wheelbase was one of its distinguishing marks. With the continuous improvements made on the Spirit line, Dodge managed to incorporate modern technologies in improving its functionality and handling characteristics. As a result, Dodge Spirit was made available in different trim levels and in three engine selections. They are the standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, the optional 3.0-liter V6 engine and the turbo that was standard in the ES level.
Over the years, Dodge Spirit has been subject to yearly changes to address the weaknesses of its original designs. The onset of ABS disc-brake set up made this lineup safer to drive as it maintains driving control and excellent traction, a feature that made this ride highly adaptable to any possible driving conditions. With its 3-speed transmission, driving transitions were hastened. Unlike other fast cars, Dodge Spirit manages to maintain a comfortable ride. The secret to its excellent suspension system lies on its high performance shocks, 70-mm progressive rate front jounce bumpers and especially designed sway bars. Also, improvements were done on the design and applications of its driving safety devices such as air bags and seatbelts so as to deliver increased safety.
Great handling, power windows, power mirrors, stereo systems and air conditioning system, all of these comes in at relatively lower price when you choose to drive a Dodge Spirit. It can accelerate faster than the Contour V6 and Nissan Maxima. But what’s thrilling about this ride is that it bursts outstanding acceleration rate at quite a bit of gas mileage. Hence, owning this ride is worth it as it delivers higher levels of driving safety and optimum engine power in a matter of seconds.
