The Toyota Solara is a mid size coupe made by Toyota and sold in the North American market among other international car markets. Production of the Toyota Solara first began in 1999. The car is set for discontinuation after its 2008 car model year though there are plans to revive the car model in the near future.

The Toyota Solara is also known as the Toyota Camry Solara, reflecting its origins. The Toyota Solara was designed to be a sporty version of the Toyota Camry. It is available as either a mid size coupe or a mid size convertible. The target market of the Toyota Solara was the more sports minded car buyers who wanted a Toyota Camry experience. Thus, the Toyota Camry Solara sought to mix the large space and practicality of the Toyota Camry with sporty looks. Thus, the name Toyota Camry Solara reflected the mixing of the Toyota Camry with sporty, "sunny" stylings. However, in most cases, the Toyota Camry Solara is referred to as simply the Toyota Solara and even the emblems of the vehicle only carry the Solara marque. The Toyota Solara traces its roots back to the discontinued Toyota Camry coupe, a trim of the older Toyota Camry which was discontinued in 1997 due to unpopularity. By 1999, other car makers were featuring successful coupes of their own and Toyota decided to revive the coupe lineup of the Toyota Camry and designed the Toyota Camry Solara. The Toyota Solara, despite tracing its roots to the Toyota Camry, features significantly different styling from the Toyota Camry and the design and components of the vehicle actually trail with the Toyota Camry.

The Toyota Solara has gone through two generations of production. The first generation of the Toyota Solara featured a 2.2 litre I4 engine and a 3.0 litre V6 engine. Transmissions available for this version of the car were either 4 speed automatic or a 5 speed manual transmission. In 2004, Toyota introduced the second generation of the Toyota Solara. This time, the engines available were a 2.4 litre I4 engine and a 3.3 litre V6 engine. With the automatic transmission, the Toyota Solara is less than aggressive on the road, giving only adequate acceleration. The manual transmission fared much better. The V6 engine, of course gave the car more go on the road, though for regular use, the I4 engine is adequate. The automatic transmission of the Toyota Solara showed a tendency to rush through the higher gears and wants to stay their, reluctantly downshifting. Suspension for the Toyota Solara is quite soft and offers a very calm and sedate ride. Larger bumps are noticeable however and the convertible version offers some body shake, unlike the coupe version. Steering is merely adequate and is sub par with some of its competitors.

End of production status of the Toyota Solara ought to get some discounts for buyers of the vehicle. The Toyota Solara does offer a very practical and sporty ride. It is no class leader but what anyone needs for a daily rider is already there.
