Suzuki Sidekick / Vitara Headlights: Find Your Replacement Sidekick / Vitara Headlight Assembly

The Suzuki Sidekick was a mini SUV manufactured and sold by the Suzuki car company of Japan. The Suzuki Sidekick was a follow up of the popular, off road going Suzuki Samurai.

Introduced into the mini SUV car markets, the Suzuki Sidekick replaced the Suzuki Samurai in the early 1990s as the mini SUV entrant of Suzuki. The Suzuki Sidekick was first produced in 1989 and was in continuous production until 2004, although, from 1998, the Suzuki Sidekick was already renamed as the Suzuki Vitara. In fact, the Suzuki Sidekick was a name used for the mini SUV only in the North American car markets. In other car markets such as in Europe, the Suzuki Sidekick was actually known as the Suzuki Vitara. In the North American market, the Suzuki Sidekick was manufactured under a joint venture between Suzuki and General Motors. There is also a version of the Suzuki Sidekick sold under the GEO and the Chevrolet car brand. These were the GEO Tracker and the Chevrolet Tracker. The Suzuki Sidekick was intended as a follow up of the popular Suzuki Samurai. The Suzuki Samurai was more of an off road vehicle and, although highly popular, only received limited distribution as such. The Suzuki Sidekick was designed to be a more civilized vehicle on the the road while still being capable of off road running. The Suzuki Sidekick achieved limited market success. Its comparatively low price compared to its competitors gave it an edge in the market.

The first generation of the Suzuki Sidekick was available as either a two door or a four door model. The four door model offered a wider wheelbase which contributed to the added stability of the SUV. There were three engines used in these first generation Sidekicks. These were generally I4 engines which were 1.3 litre I4, a 1.6 litre I4 and a 1.8 litre I4 engines. Transmissions available for the first generation Suzuki Sidekick ere a 5 speed manual transmission, a 4 speed and a 3 speed automatic transmission. The second generation Suzuki Sidekick known as the Suzuki Vitara was also available as either a two door or a four door model. The engines used were a 1.6 litre I4 and a 2 litre I4 engine. Transmissions available were a 4 speed automatic and a 5 speed manual transmission. The Suzuki Sidekick was still unable to provide adequate everyday driving experience. Lower engine numbers meant lower acceleration performance which greatly hampered the SUV on the highway. Even the bigger engines performed at just about average. Suspensions was also too hard with the car bouncing along in moderately rough road surfaces. Handling is one of the better points of the Suzuki Sidekick although drivers needed to be careful on curves as the long, lean body profile of the Suzuki Sidekick tended to a mean lean.

The Suzuki Sidekick is more civilized than the Suzuki Samurai but not by much. This isn't the car to get for everyday driving. The low price and the small body size might have been attractive for a city vehicle if the Suzuki Samurai had offered a kinder, softer ride. As it is, prospective buyers are better served with other car models.
