The Hyundai Scoupe was a sports car entry of Hyundai. The car was available in the United States car market for 1991 to 1995. The car was sold as a 2 door coupe and was heavily based on the Hyundai Excel. When the Hyundai Scoupe was released, they Hyundai Excel was already out and the Hyundai car brand had already been considered as one of the least reliable car brands in the American car markets. The Hyundai Scoupe did not win any points either when it borrowed the same engine from Hyundai Excel. By the time the Hyundai Scoupe had entered the car market, the failure of the Hyundai Excel had preceded it and the car did not perform as well in the market as it should have. This was not entirely the fault of the Excel model, however. The Hyundai Coupe did suffer some kinks of its own. The car was underpowered unless car buyers opted for the up level Hyundai Scoupe Turbo which upped the capabilities of the Scoupe but not by much. The Hyundai Scoupe also suffered from several technical issues such as having a sluggish acceleration and generally mediocre handling. The car was also quite noisy and road noise could often be heard from the tires unless the car was running on a completely smooth surface. The Hyundai Scoupe also had a very noisy engine. Space inside the car was relatively comfortable although the rear seats were all but useless. The Hyundai Scoupe also enjoyed a high fuel efficiency so long as it used the base engine. The turbo engine of the Hyundai Scoupe hurt the fuel performance of the car. The Hyundai Scoupe first came out with the 1.5 litre engine sourced from Mitsubishi. The engine had an output of 81 hp and was the same engine used in the Hyundai Excel. Transmission for the Scoupe was available as either a 5 speed manual or a 4 speed automatic transmission. Most drivers preferred the manual transmission as it marginally increases the road performance of the car. The Hyundai had a front engine front wheel drive setup. The Hyundai Scoupe received an upgrade in 1993 and this time around, the car received the new, Hyundai made 1.5 litre 12 valve engine with direct port fuel injection. This was called the Alpha and the engine produced 92 hp. The 1993 Hyundai Scoupe was also available as a GT trim. The GT trim had a turbocharged version of the engine used by the base model of the Hyundai Scoupe. This gave the engine a much more respectable output at the time of 115 hp. The turbo version of the Hyundai Scoupe was only available with a 5 speed manual transmission. The Hyundai Scoupe is a mediocre sports coupe at best. There is little reason for anyone to buy this car except, maybe for its relatively low price. The Hyundai Scoupe has a very low market resale value so that Hyundai Scoupe car models in the second hand car dealers usually go for very low prices. Headlights by State: ______________________
