Luxury cars take their definition from two things: exquisite road performance and the golden price tag. And in the realm of automobile manufacturing, the name Volvo is an eminent symbol of luxury, as evidenced by the cars they produce. The Volvo S70 is one other memorable notch carved on Volvo's post. Produced by the Swedish automaker, Volvo, the S70 sedan, was formally introduced to the U.S. in 1997. The sedan was released as an updated version and successor to the Volvo 850 model. While the S70 utilized the same platform as its predecessor, it did, however, feature softer lines and improved suspensions. From the outside, the exterior of the S70 exhibited a rounder version of the 850 model. Its lines lacked the customary hard lines of Volvo's boxed look. Added to the physical makeover were a new set of slimmer headlamps, a reshaped hood, and well-rounded front end.Under the hood, though, the S70 told a throng of stories. All throughout its market existence, the S70 came in half a dozen trim levels namely, Base, SE, GL, GLT, T5 and R. Thus, the Volvo S70 understandably had different engines. The base model, for example, had an engine powered by a 2.4-liter dual-overhead-cam 5-cylinder with 168 hp. The GLT, on the other hand, had a similar engine in a turbocharged version, which made it adept at producing 190 hp. The T5 comes with a more highly tuned 2.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, which competently churns out 236 hp. The Base and T5 models were available with either 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission, while the rest could be had in automatic. The S70-R trim, which was distributed exclusively in Europe, bore a slightly stronger engine when it was introduced sometime in 2000. The s70-R engine was an extra-tuned version, rating at 250hp, whose models were fitted with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Models fitted with a 4-speed automatic gearbox rated at 240 hp. An additional option introduced on the S70 was TRACS, a traction control system that directs the front brakes to limit wheel slippage. Safety-wise, all S70 models retained the standard disc brakes and anti-lock braking system. A drive-by-wire feature was added to the S70 for the 1999 model year. This move replaced the traditional throttle cable arrangement with that of an Electronic Throttle System (ETS). And an all-wheel drive was also featured in the GLT trim for the years 1999 and 2000.From there, we explore what's behind the metal alloy. Inside, the S70 are its standard equipment air-conditioning, powered windows (in the front and rear), a temperature gauge, and a stereo system. Seats had dual front and side airbags. The cabin of the S70 is easily perceived as one that was built for five people. And it helps to know as well that this sedan has plenty of space in the trunk for work supplies and groceries.Simply put, the Volvo S70 is an 850 model with some improvements physically and most importantly, mechanically. Such improvements make the Volvo S70 a better performance in fast and normal speeds. The ride is stable and comfort is superb. Gadgets like the radio and climate controls are easily accessible and very user-friendly. So, is the S70 your kind of car? If you want the generous space of an SUV without crazy gas prices that come with one, then Volvo S70 is for you. . Headlights by State: ______________________
