In early 2005, Honda decided to enter the pickup truck market by introducing the Honda Ridgeline. The Honda Ridgeline is considered as a mid-size pickup truck and is the first entrant of Honda to the sizable pickup truck market of the US. The Honda Ridgeline was first released as a 2006 model in March of 2005. So far, the Honda Ridgeline has been slow in gaining ground in the pickup truck market which is currently dominated by American car makers. On release, the Honda Ridgeline was up against major competition most of which had been in the truck market for several years. The Honda Ridgeline got lukewarm reactions from off roaders because the truck is more fit as an urban traveler than an off roader. For one thing, the V6 engine of the Honda Ridgeline certainly isn't worthy of an off road going truck. The Honda Ridgeline also sports a design which is car-based which many critics have considered to be a weak start for a new entrant to the truck market, giving the Honda Ridgeline an obvious lack of ruggedness. However, Honda has insisted that the Honda Ridgeline is up to par with what the market is looking for in a pick up truck. The design of the Honda Ridgeline offers a mix of the convenience and luxury of a car with the power and capabilities of a pickup truck. This has resulted in a truck which has limited off road capabilities. Conversely, many find that the Honda Ridgeline perfectly fits the bill when it comes to an urban heavy duty hauler. The car design sensibilities of the Honda Ridgeline gives it a comfortable ride while the robust pickup truck body allows it to carry heavy loads in style. The Honda Ridgeline has a long way to go yet before it can be considered as a failure or a success. So far, sales of the Honda Ridgeline has been slow in picking up and some dealers are offering the truck at discounted prices to raise sales. The Honda Ridgeline inherits the technological prowess that Honda has long been known for. The Honda Ridgeline has unibody architecture which gives the truck a better measure of torsional rigidity without the loss of load capacity. The Honda Ridgeline also offers an independent suspension for all four wheels. This gives the Ridgeline a better overall ride, providing stable handling even when it is loaded. The unique design of the Honda Ridgeline also gives it a trunk, a unique feature for a pickup truck. The trunk of the truck is located under the load bed and can be locked for security. The new 2008 Honda Ridgeline also features the VCM system of Honda which turns off two to three of the six pistons of the engine when it is experiencing low load such as when cruising and turns them back on when the engine is experiencing aggressive use. All in all, the Honda Ridgeline performs quite well giving a stable driving experience rather like a car while having some of the capabilities of a pickup truck. The Honda Ridgeline would be best for those who want a good urban load hauler. As an off roader, the Honda Ridgeline is a bit underpowered. Buyers of the Honda Ridgeline are also going to enjoy the discounted prices of the Honda Ridgeline. Related Bookmarks
