The Acura RSX is a luxury sports compact vehicle produced by Acura from 2002 to 2006. The vehicle is a direct predecessor to the Acura Integra, although it received a completely new platform upon redesign. The Acura RSX is only available in North America and in Hong Kong. In other parts of the world, the Acura RSX is known as the Honda Integra.
The Acura RSX was designed to be the replacement of the Acura Integra. As a vehicle with a completely new platform and a more luxurious configuration, the car was badged as the Acura RSX. The Acura RSX was targeted for more upscale buyers who recognized the sportiness and reliability of the Acura Integra but who did not associate the car with luxury. The Acura RSX changed this perception by being a luxurious compact vehicle with a very sporty feel. Outside North America, the vehicle was sold as the new model of the Honda Integra as the Acura brand did not exist outside North America. The Acura RSX turned out to be a big seller for Acura. It was the vehicle of choice for young men who preferred high performance cars without a good price range. However, in 2006, the Acura RSX was discontinued even with its high selling performance. This was to accommodate the restructuring of the Acura brand name, aiming to introduce the brand worldwide. Another mitigating factor was the introduction of the Honda Civic Si which had comparable performance to the Acura RSX and had a lower price tag.
Among the cars in the Acura line up, the Acura RSX is known as one of the cars with the most number of performance options. This is probably one of its major selling points to performance car enthusiasts. The Acura RSX carried a K20A3 engine that could output 169 hp. A Type S option offered a K20A2 engine rated at 200hp and a K20Z1 motor rated at 210hp. Since its release, the Acura RSX has undergone several upgrades to enhance the car's road performance. A few of these upgrades include revision of the suspension tuning making the RSX handle smoother and more precisely, a road hugging, ride height reduction of 7 mm, reduction of vehicle nois and vibration and several enhancements of the transmission system to provide for faster acceleration and smoother shifting. Throughout its production cycle, the Acura RSX has received few complaints and plenty of praise. Many car magazines have named it as one of the best spots compact vehicles, winning several informal comparison competitions held by them.
The Acura RSX is a favorite tuner car. It is an excellent performer for its class. The Acura RSX retains a good market value due to its high performance and relative luxury. Owners of the Acura RSX would benefit with holding out for a higher price if they are selling their cars. However, the Acura RSX is such a solid performer that it is such a shame to put it up for sale in the second hand market.
