The Acura RL is the successor of the highly successful Accura Legend. The RL in the name stands for "Refined Luxur" and is befitting the car as the Accura RL is the luxury option and the flagship car of the Acura line up of cars. The Accura RL is made in Saitama, Japan and was first released in 1996, replacing the very popular Acura Legend.
Building upon the success of the Acura Legend, Acura developed a more prestigious luxury car and developed the Acura RL. Internally, the car was code named the KA9. Upon its introduction, the Acura RL had very few admirers. Many of the observers had expected a more grandiose car. A large part of the criticism of the Acura RL is the lack of a V8 option for its engine. There was also no rear wheel drive Acura RLs at the time. Three generations of the Acura Rl have been released so far.
The Acura RL is a marvel of technology. Aside from the lack of a V8 engine option, it is difficult to find a fault in the Acura RL. The Acura RL rides very well, smooth and stable on the road. It is also very responsive and has adequate power to put on the road. The first generation Acura RLs were powered by V6 3.5 litre engines. The second generation of Acura RLs featured a new 60° 3.5 litre J-series engine that provided an output of 300hp. However, the engine output was changed to a lower 290 hp to comply with new testing procedures of the SAE. One of the most popular innovations of the Acura RL is its SH-AWD technology, also known as the Super Handling All Wheel Drive technology. The SH-AWD technology of the Acura RL provided active differential adjustments to the all wheel drive of the Acura RL. This innovation gained the Acura RL the praise of "Popular Mechanics" naming the innovation one of the best innovations in automotive technology for the year 2004. The Acura RL also got named as the "Tech Car Of The Year" by "Cnet.com" in 2005. The second generation Acura RL also featured a five speed automatic transmission with shift paddles located behind the steering wheel. The Acura RL also includes as an optional package a Collision Mitigation Braking System which is a collision detection and avoidance system developed by Acura.
The Acura RL is a good choice for a luxury car. Although, compared to other competing luxury cars in the market, the Acura RL seems to be underpowered, it is still one of the safest and most reliable luxury cars available in the market. The ride of the Acura RL is firm and responsive and the car itself is very reliable and quite luxurious. For many, the lack of a V8 engine and a limited transmission system has been one of the weak points of the Acura RL. This does not mean that the Acura RL is a weak car. The 3.5 litre engine of the Acura RL can certainly burn the rubber if needed. Only, the Acura RL has not joined the bandwagon for overpowered luxury vehicles.Headlights by State: ______________________
