The Infiniti QX4 served as the first entry of the Infiniti car company to the American SUV car market. The SUV was in production from 1997 up to 2003. The Infiniti QX4 performed quite well in the SUV car market but, during its last years, its aging design ultimately reduced market response to the SUV.
Along with the Nissan Terrano Regulus, the Infiniti QX4 was a rebadged version of the proven Nissan Pathfinder. The Infiniti QX4 was first released in 1997, entering the SUV market as the SUV car model of Infiniti for the first time. Although based on the Pathfinder, the Infinti QX4 featured a more aggressive and advanced four wheel drive system, an upgraded styling and a more luxurious interior. Surprisingly, the Infiniti QX4 was also a capable off roader, something which most of its competitors were not able to provide as most of them could only offer partial off road capabilities. The Infiniti QX4 also proved to be a powerful vehicle after it had been upgraded from its original engine model which was far less capable. However, the automatic transmission of the car proved problematic at times. The Infiniti QX4 initially received good sales in the SUV car market but Infiniti failed to update the design of the Infiniti QX4 for later models and many SUV buyers turned away from the QX4 as its design already looked outdated. The Infiniti QX4 was removed from the market and was replaced with the Infiniti FX35/FX45 SUV models.
Upon its first release, the Infiniti QX4 had a 3.3 litre V6 engine which produced 168 hp. This was considered to be too weak for its vehicle class and hampered the sales of the vehicle. The Infiniti QX4 then received a much needed upgrade to a 3.5 litre V6 engine producing 240 hp. This received better market response for the QX4. Transmission was only available as a 4 speed automatic. The Infiniti QX4 was a rear wheel drive at base trime but a four wheel drive option was also available. Standard features included front side airbags and ABS. The Infiniti QX4 had an impressive acceleration rating for its class. Handling for the car was also adequate though the high stance of the car made it prone to body lean. The Infiniti QX4 also had a large turning radius making it less maneuverable than its competitors. Fuel efficiency for the Infiniti QX4 is about average for its class although the car did require premium gasoline for fuel.
For a second hand buy, the Infiniti QX4 is a good choice both for its capable performance and its generally comfortable features. It is also one of a few SUVs with real off road capabilities which makes it very attractive for SUV buyers who want a more capable and aggressive SUV. However, the Infiniti QX4 has a low fuel efficiency and an aged design which second hand buyers should consider very well before buying.Headlights by State: ______________________
