One of the most consistent big sellers of the Honda car company was the Honda Prelude. The Honda Prelude was a sports coupe which was in production for five generations starting from 1978 up to 2001. The car was ultimately discontinued as it had begun to sell poorly by the late 1990s. However, the Honda Prelude is still a popular car especially among car modding groups.
The Honda Prelude was first released in 1978 and was the third entry to the main models of the Honda lineup of cars. The car was based on the Honda Accord but contained styling and design cues taken from both the Honda Accord and the Honda Civic. Upon release, the car gained quite a huge following because the car was a strong competitor in the sports coupe market. The Honda Prelude was one of the cars that established the Honda car company's well deserved reputation for car engineering. The first release of the Honda Prelude featured a sizable moonroof made of glass which was a standard feature for all models of the car. At the time, this was a very rare design for cars. Some of the third generation, 1987 Honda Prelude cars also featured four wheel steering, a major engineering coup of Honda. This generation of the Honda Prelude is also famous for beating several high performance cars in a slalom test by Road & Track. The model used was a Honda Prelude 2.0Si 4WS. It managed the slalom at 65.5 mph beating cars from Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini and Corvette. By the fourth generation of the Honda Prelude, released from 1992 to 1996, the car had begun to lose sales. This was primarily because the car was beginning to be eclipsed by other sportier models prominent of which are Honda's own NSX and S2000. The fifth generation Honda Preludes, manufactured from 1997 to 2001, were the last. The Honda Prelude line of cars was ultimately discontinued in 2001. However, demand for the Honda Prelude is still high. The car's performance and overall reliability has made it very popular for second hand car owners and for modders as well. Honda Prelude is one of the most popular car modding models available. This is primarily due to the large number of replacement parts and afermarket parts available for the car.
The first ever Honda Prelude released was the 1978 model. The car was created by Honda to be a sportier option for Honda car buyers. At the time, the main car models of Honda were the Honda Civic and the Honda Accord. The car combined design and style cues from the Civic and Accord and a prominent feature of the car was its large moon roof which was standard for all models but quite unique at the time. the car was powered by a SOHC CVCC 1751 I4 engine which had an output of 72 hp. Transmission was a manual, 5 speed transmission. Since its first generation, the Honda Prelude has been known to carry innovation after innovation from Honda Civic. The third generation of the Honda Prelude is worth a mention because it carried with its line the Honda Prelude SiStates. The SiStates is quite a rare model of the Honda Prelude. The Honda Prelude SiStates carried a four wheel steering system which gave the car unprecedented maneuverability and balance. Its was a B21A engine which was produced only for its use. The car was rated with an output of 150bhp.
Current sales for the Honda Prelude depend highly on second hand or refurbished car dealers. The reputation of the Honda Prelude as a performance car and as a modder favorite usually gives it relatively high price.
