The Honda Pilot is Honda's replacement for the Honda Passport. This time around, the car is designed and built completely by Honda. The Honda Pilot was first released as a 2003 model during 2002. Since its release, the Honda Pilot has been a huge seller in the SUV car market and has won several awards.

Whereas the Honda CR-V is based on the Honda Civic, the Honda Pilot is based on the Acura MDX which, in turn is derived from the Honda Odyssey. The tougher, more rigid design of the Honda Pilot made it suitable for light off roading activities. Even so, the Honda Pilot still achieves a smooth and comfortable ride which is more akin to a car than an SUV. The overall performance of the Honda Pilot has made it one of the most preferred SUVs in the American car market. It has also received plenty of accolades. For instance, the Honda Pilot has been Car and Driver's Best Large SUV from 2002 up to 2007.
The latest release of the Honda Pilot is the 2009 model. The 2009 model of the Honda Pilot is equipped with a 3.5 litre VTEC V6 engine which produces 250 SAE hp at 2500 rpm. Torque force is at 253 ft-lb at 4800 rpm. One of the unique features of the Honda Pilot is its Variable Cylinder Management system which allows the Honda Pilot to turn switch to three or four cylinders when the car is not aggressively using the engine. Once there is demand for power, the system seamlessly reverts back to full six cylinder performance. The Honda Pilot is also equipped with the VTM-4 or Variable Torque Management 4WD of Honda. The VTM-4 system is designed to distribute power to the wheels of the car depending on its use. During acceleration or during wheel slippage, the system delivers power to all the four wheels of the car. Some of the safety features of the Honda Pilot include ABS system for all the 4 wheels of the car which are also disc brake equipped, airbags and a 282 degree visibility. All in all, the Honda Pilot is a high performance SUV which has reliability, safety and performance on its side. The only possible downside of the SUV is probably its low fuel efficiency which is actually pretty good in the SUV car range.
When it comes to SUVs, Honda Pilot ranks among the top choices that an SUV buyer could choose from. The car has solid performance, excellent luxury and the Honda brand name to back it up. Still, as an SUV, the Honda Pilot has some serious fuel efficiency hurdles to jump over. It is starting well with its VCM system which has made it one of the most fuel efficient SUVs in the market today. However, compared to the fuel efficiency of cars.
