The Pontiac Parisienne was a fll size car model line from Pontiac. The car was primarily a Canadian model which was later imported to the United States car market for a brief period in the 1980s. The car sold well in its original market as well as in its import market. The Pontiac Parisienne was first sold in Canada by Pontiac. In the United States car market, the equivalent models of the car were the Pontiac Catalina, the Pontiac Bonneville, the Pontiac Star Chief and the Pontiac Star Chief. As a Canadian car model, the Pontiac Parisienne was not made entirely by Pontiac. The platform of the car was basically a Chevrolet platform and General Motors used Pontiac body panels for the car to give it its distinctive, Pontiac styling look. However, most car aficionados were well aware of the difference. The engines of the Pontiac Parisienne were Chevrolet engines and were similar to those found in the full size car models of Chevrolet. It also featured the Turbo-Hydramatic and Powerglide automatic transmissions popularly used with Chevrolet car models. General Motors did this because manufacturing Pontiac engines and other components in Canada would have been too costly. Interestingly, Pontiac Parisienne car models converted to Right Hand Drive layout were also produced in Canada for export in other countries such as the United Kingdom and Australia. However, Australian car models were assembled from kits to reduce the taxation cost of importing the car into the country. The Pontiac Parisienne was imported to the United States car market in 1983 due to the increasing demand for a full size rear wheel drive vehicle. At the time, Pontiac had drastically downsized their car model line up in response to the 1970s Arab oil embargo. In the United States car market, the car model line up of Pontiac were no longer offered in a full size car body model. This was done primarily to improve the fuel consumption of the cars as well as to meet the emission standard being imposed by the government. Sales for the car were quite impressive, owing primarily to the high level of features available for the car and its relatively low price. The Pontiac Parisienne was dropped after model year 1986. At the time, sales of the car were still very good The Pontiac Parisienne available in the United States car market was 1983 to 1986 models of the car. These were basically the end models of the Pontiac Parisienne as the car was ultimately discontinued in 1986. The 1983 and 1984 models of the Pontiac Parisienne was basically a rebadged version of the Chevrolet Impala. The car featured similar taillight panels at the rear with the Chevrolet Impala, though the taillight was replaced with Pontiac style lenses. The nose of the car was also based on the Chevrot Caprice with the grille replaced by a Pontiac grille. This changed for the 1985 and 1986 models of the car which received the rear end styling of the 1980 and 1981 model year Pontiac Bonneville. The Pontiac Parisienne was a highly reliable car model which today's second hand car buyers should definitely check out. Its distinctive styling is also reminiscent of the heydays of Pontiac's full size car models which is a definite styling plus. . Headlights by State: ______________________
