The P25/P2500 is the ¾ ton model of the GMC step van. The GMC P2500 used different engines for different years. For its 1968 version, the GMC P25/P2500 used the 2.6 liter engine. And after that time, the more popular engine that was used on the step-van was the 6.2 liter and the V8 engine. Most of these engines that were fitted on the P2500 were all powered by diesel fuel injection systems. The van also serviced the 5.7 liter power producer and this was used as well for many years. For most of its stay in the market, the P2500/P25 didn’t experience much problems, save for some recall problems. But all these recalls were minor and affected some minor parts of the vehicle. For example the P2500/P25 was recalled due the defective oil filters that were crafted and manufactured by Honeywell. Based on the recall order, the oil filters that were used by the vans did not pass the strict quality standards of the maker. It was further learned that the affected gasket of the oil filter will become more pliable under high temperatures and pressures. So it was suggested that the oil filters be replaced free of charge. The recall incident affected the P2500 model for 1982. Other than that, the P2500/P25 made a strong showing in the market thanks to its construction and design. The use of the step-van design enabled the P2500 to become truly helpful for people who need to conduct their business in many locations. In fact this type of vehicle has been the choice model of some big companies in the US thru the years. The US Postal Service and the Canada Post used this type of vehicle from GMC. This model from GMC has been in the market for a long time, and perhaps its dependability is the reason why the P2500 continues to make waves in the market.
