The Honda Odyssey is Honda's answer to the minivan car market. The car has been in production since 1995 and is still being produced today. There are two distinct types of Honda Odyssey, one for the American market and one for the Japanese Market. The American market Honda Odyssey is distinctively larger than the Japanese model. The larger Honda Odyssey is still available in Japan as the Honda LaGreat. The first release of the Honda Odyssey received low market response. However, with subsequent models, the Honda Odyssey has proved to be a qualified success. The first generation Honda Odyssey debuted in 1995. As a minivan, the Honda Odyssey had a lot of quirks, some of which gained the minivan praise, others criticism. While most minivans feature sliding doors for the rear passengers, the Honda Odyssey featured swing doors . The Honda Odyssey is also the first minivan to feature third row seats that folded flat. Unfortunately for the Honda Odyssey, it was critically underpowered and many car owners considered the cabin size of the Odyssey to be too small for a car its size. The second generation Honda Odyssey, fortunately addressed all these issues and helped the Honda Odyssey make a comeback. At present, the Honda Odyssey is one of the top sellers in its class. Many customers favor the Odyssey for its high performance, large space and impressive design. The latest Honda Odyssey is based on the 2005 model. This model of the Honda Odyssey carries a 3.5 litre V6 engine which produces 255 hp. The Honda Odyssey also features the VCM or Variable Cylinder Management. The main purpose of the VCM system of the Honda Odyssey is to increase the fuel efficiency of the car. It does this by effectively shutting off three of the six cylinders of the engine whenever the Honda Odyssey is not using the engine aggressively such as when it is cruising or slowing down. The VCM also gives back power to the engine efficiently, activating the three cylinders once the driver goes into aggressive driving. The Touring model of the Honda Odyssey is equipped with run flat tires. However, the high cost of repair for run flat tires has proved to be an inhibiting factor for the car. The Honda Odyssey is known for its impressively stable handling and quick acceleration. Given its high profile, the Honda Odyssey can corner fairly well and breaking is also strong and linear. Some models of the older models of the Honda Odyssey have experienced transmission problems. Honda is usually quite responsive to these issues and current models of the Honda Odyssey are no longer experiencing these problems. When it comes to minivans, the Honda Odyssey is one of the few who make the top selling list consistently. The stability of the Honda Odyssey as well as its power and generous cabin size make it a favorite for large families with plenty of children and equipment to carry around. The Honda Odyssey also holds an impressive record for fuel economy which makes it even more attractive in today's car markets. Headlights by State: ______________________
