The Isuzu Oasis is a minivan produced by Isuzu from 1996 up to 1999. It is the same car as the Honda Odyssey and is the only minivan produced by Isuzu. The Isuzu Oasis received relatively warm market reception although its placement against the Honda Odyssey hurt its sales.
Released in 1996, the Isuzu Oasis was part of the agreement between Isuzu and Honda where the companies would buy vehicles from each other. Out of the deal, Honda was able to release the Honda Passport and the Acura SLX which were based on the Isuzu Rodeo and the Isuzu Trooper. For the Isuzu car company, this agreement got them the Honda Odyssey and the Honda Civic which were renamed to the Isuzu Oasis and the Isuzu Gemini respectively. The Isuzu Oasis was very similar to the Honda Odyssey. The only appreciable difference of the Isuzu Oasis was the lower price tag which came with a more generous warranty. The Isuzu Oasis holds the distinction of being the only minivan in the lineup of Isuzu vehicles. It is also one of the better selling Isuzu models and was notably used extensively once as taxis in the city of New York. The Isuzu Oasis performed reasonably well in the market. Smarter minivan buyers who did their research preferred to the Isuzu Oasis over the Honda Odyssey as they are virtually the same vehicle and Isuzu wisely sold the Oasis with a lower price tag and a better warranty offer. However, competing with Honda Odyssey still hurt the sales of the Oasis as many still preferred the Honda vehicle branding.
Mechanically, the Isuzu Oasis shared the same features as the Honda Odyssey. The minivan was assembled in Sayama, Japan and featured a front engine front drive layout. The engine of the 1996 to 1997 model were SOHC 2.2 litre engines capable of 140hp. The 1998 and 1999 models of the Isuzu Oasis had SOHC VTEC 2.3 litre I4 engines capable of 150 hp. Transmission for the Oasis minivan was a four speed automatic. Standard equipment for the Isuzu Oasis included dual air bags and four wheel disc brakes with antilock. The Isuzu Oasis was offered in two trims, the base and the LS model. The difference between the two trims were mainly in the available seating of the minivan. The base model could seat 7 in its two front bucket seats, 3-seater middle bench and 2-seater rear bench. The LS model could seat only 6. The middle bench of the base model was replaced with a couple of bucket seat captain's chairs. The Isuzu Oasis performed quite well on the road. It offered a stable and solid ride and handled turns quite well, offering minimal body lean. Seating on the driver's seat was also car like with easy to reach controls. The 4 cylinder engine handled itself quite well. It also had impressive fuel efficiency as well.
Although there are other more powerful and spacious minivans available, the Isuzu Oasis offers good choice of price and value. As a second hander, an Isuzu Oasis in good condition is worth a buy for its performance, stability and impressive fuel efficiency as a minivan. Headlights by State: ______________________
