A world-renowned car manufacturer and currently, the third largest maker of automobile in Japan is the Nissan Motor Company, Limited. It was formerly known as “Datsun” as an acronym to the company’s collaborates’ family names, which started the business. The company officially started its operations in 1914. As of recent, it has been figured in a partnership with French company Renault S. A. Currently, it is one of the prominent figures in the Japanese Big 3 automakers – the Asian version of the United States’ "Big Three- Thousand". Today, they currently run the luxury brand Infiniti. They are famed for making the Nissan VQ engines has consistently been featured in Ward’s 10 best engines for 14 years since its inception.
In 1911, the Kwaishinsha Motorcar Works was established in the Azabu-Hiroo District in Tokyo. Three years after, they decided to release the first DAT car after their corporate partner’s family names: Kenjiro Den, Rokuro Aoyama, and Meitaro Takeuchi. Although predominantly a maker of trucks, from then on, they have continuously built DAT passenger cars. In 1928, Yoshisuke Aikawa founded the Nippon Sangyo, which was abbreviated as Nissan. In 1931, Aikawa bought majority shares in the Kwaishinsha Motorcar Works. That same year, they produced a smaller car out of their current models. They aptly named it the Datson, meaning the son of Dat. In 1934, Aikawa acquired the Tobata, incorporated it with the existing company, and turned it into what will be known to the world as Nissan Motors. In the 1930’s, in an effort to have greater access to motor machinery and better design, they have a strategic tie-up with the British company – Austin of United Kingdom. As early as 1930, they have started making the Austin out of this deal. This tie-up was well received and lasted its long reign of making Austin until the 1970’s. They have established their market in Japan and decided to expand their market to foreign lands like Australia and the US. By 1966, they ventured into a merger with Prince Motor Company adding more upscale flavor to their cars. In the wake of the 1973 oil crisis, they have made a conscious effort to expand their marketing territories by setting up factories new factories in Mexico, Australia, Taiwan and South Africa with a shift towards making more fuel-efficient cars. In the 1980’s, they have built an assembly factory in Smyrna, Tennessee. From then on, they never looked back. They have continuously produced cars that fit the needs of various markets. In 199, they had another alliance with Renault S.A. Both companies benefited from the bargain and currently, make the most amazing car models.
Some of the cars that made this brand a household name are the Sentra, Pathfinder and Terrano. The Nissan Sentra is one car that has seen many transformations. Starting as a subcompact car, it has now gracefully evolved into a mid-sized car. The Pathfinder is their model of long line of pick-ups. The Terrano, meanwhile, started as a compact SUV and is currently, s mid-sized SUV.
Some anticipated changes in the Nissan line of cars are the soon to be models. This includes a new version of the Quest, some hybrids, and a face lifted Pathfinder with a V8 engine.
