Mitsubishi Motors Corporation is one of famous Japan-based car manufacturers. It was formed in 1970 and currently, is the 17th largest carmaker in the world based on worldwide unit sales every year. The company has survived through the years because of strategic partnerships with various companies as initially strategized by their first president, Tomio Kubo to encourage expansion. The significant symbol of the paragraph of three diamonds dates back as far as a century before the actual inception of the motor division. It was chosen by their fonder, Yataro Iwasaki, to symbolize the emblem of both the Tosa clan the first family to employ him and his own family, which was three rhombuses, stacked upon each other. The making of cars started in the early 1900s. In 1917, Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. introduced the Model A, Japan's first series-production automobile. In 1934, upon the merging of the Shipbuilding and Aircraft companies forming the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, designed aircraft, ships, railroad cars and machinery. However, in 1937, they built the PX33, a prototype sedan for military use, which was the first Japanese-built passenger car with full-time four-wheel drive. After the Second World War, they resumed building Fuso bus and included a small three-wheeled cargo vehicle called the Mizushima and a scooter called the Silver Pigeon. Upon the orders of the zaibatsu split by the Allied forces, what were left of the company were just three separate motor development firms: West Japan Heavy-Industries, Central Japan Heavy-Industries, and East Japan Heavy-Industries. The three companies, during the development of Japans economy in the 1960s, were separate entities that had motor development involvements. They finally merged into the Mitsubishi Motor Corporation April 22, 1970. With the wisdom of their first president, Tomio Kubo, the MHI leg of the motor company sold 15% of its share to Chrysler. Together with this development, their sales significantly improved. In 1980, with Chrysler on the brink of a financial hiatus, the bought Chryslers Australian division and turn it into their very own Australian dealership division. This continued until the 1990s with several partnerships and collaborations along the way. However, with economic crises hitting Asia in 1997, Mitsubishi was also greatly affected. As of today, revitalization efforts are still underway despite what seemed like a steady sales for the company. Among the models that have made Mitsubishi a household name are the Galant, Eclipse, and Endeavor. The Endeavor is a midsized crossover SUV based on the Ps platform. This is the first car to be made under The Project America. The Galant as a compact sedan, but over the course of its life has evolved into a larger mid-size car. Lastly, the Eclipse four-seat sports coupe intended for the left hand drive markets including the United States, Canada, and Taiwan. The anticipated changes in the cars of Mitsubishi include the yearly facelift on certain brand including the intended changes on the Eclipse and Galant. The Galant will have new front and rear fascias including new grilles. Mitsubishi is here to stay.
