The Mercury Milan is a mid size luxury car market entry from Mercury, the upscale car model line of the Ford Motor company.
The Mercury Milan is based on the Ford CD3 platform which is the platform used by the Ford Fusion. The Mercury Milan is essentially a reabadged Ford Fusion though given more luxurious trims as befitting the upscale division of Ford. The Mercury Milan, the Ford Fusion and the Lincoln MKZ are developed from the Mazda 6 sedan and some of their parts are interchangeable. The distinguishing points of the Mercury Milan which separates it from the Ford Fuusion are its differentiated front and rear fascia which have been specifically designed to reflect the Mercury marque of the Mercury Milan. The Mercury Milan also has larger rear doors than the Ford Fusion and features LED taillight clusters. It also has fog lamps, projector headlamps, a modified suspension and a vastly different interior trim than the Ford Fusion. The Mercury Milan was first introduced during the Chicago Auto Show held in 2005. The car was first sold as a 2006 model. Mercury has also announced that a hybrid version of the Mercury Milan is soon to come. In the American car market, the Mercury Milan is one of the more affordable luxury mid size vehicles. Sales of the Mercury Milan have been good though competitors still outstrip the car in terms of sales volume.
The Mercury Milan is a 4 door sedan with a front engine front wheel drive layout. The Mercury Milan is also offered as an all wheel drive vehicle. The engines available for the Mercury Milan include a Duratec 23 2.3 litre I4 engine with an output of 160 hp and a Duratec 30 3.0 litre V6 engine with an output of 221 hp. The transmissions available for the Mercury Milan include a 5 speed manual transmission, a 5 speed automatic transmission and a 6 speed automatic transmission. The standard features of the Mercury Milan include traction control, ABS, front side airbags and curtain side airbags. The I4 engine is quite weak on acceleration and the V6 engine fares much better. The automatic transmission of the Mercury Milan is soft on the up shift but when lower gears are needed especially for passing power, the automatic transmission is hesitant to down shift. The suspension of the Mercury Milan is on the soft side and the car can handle most road imperfections. More serious road bumps will jolt the car, however. Steering and handling for the Mercury Milanis quite responsive but the car has a wide turning circle which makes it less than nimble. Fast turns generate minimal body lean. The fuel economy of the Mercury Milan is about class average with the V6 being the more gas hungry of the engines and the all wheel drive option driving fuel consumption even higher.
The Mercury Milan is a solid mid size luxury car which offers a compelling package for car buyers. It is no class leader, however and competitors offer better packages. Still, the price range for the Mercury Milan is on the low side and that is a considerable deciding factor. Headlights by State: ______________________
