Mercedes- Benz is one of the popular German-based automobile brands specializing in the manufacture of luxury automobiles, buses, coaches, and trucks. Its operations date back as far as 1886 when Karl Benz made the first automobile making it the oldest car-manufacturing company in the world. To date, this company has developed a reputation of having the most durable and high quality cars in the whole industry. They have also introduced and pioneered certain innovations in their car models making them help shape the business standards as of date. The inception of the company was initiated with the invention of the first automobile of Karl Benz in 1886. After a few years after that resounding achievement, the first Mercedes car was made in 1901. In 1926, both of the companies of Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz went into a merger, giving rise to the very first Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Throughout the history of the company, it has been figured in various motoring events including rallying and car racing. It has fielded the best of their cars – built from superior design, creative and efficient engineering and overall quality. There were times that, the company significantly stopped participating in the races including in the late 1930’s. In 1955, a Mercedes-Benz 300SLR collided with another car and killed more than eighty spectators. This tragedy prompted the company to stop fielding cars. Late in the 1980’s, they returned to the competition with new car named Sauber. Their first win came in the 1990’s when the Mercedes-based engine car Ilmor won the Indy 500 race under the USAC/CART rules with Al Unser, Jr. as driver. The company is figured in three forms of motor sport: Formula Three, DTM and Formula One. In Formula One, they particularly support the Team Mclaren which they partly own. They supply the team with engines making them win back to back in 1998 and 1999. Among their famed cars, the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, Mercedes-Benz CLS, SLK-Class Roadster are the most renowned. The SLK is a compact roadster that came as a retractable hardtop convertible. It has been improved in two generation: the R170 and the R171. The CLS came as an executive-size sedan based on the W211 E-Class model. It is currently being marketed as a four-door coupe that combines the "strong, emotive charisma" of a coupe with the "comfort and practicality" of a saloon as per advertisement of the company. The SLR McLaren is an Anglo-German sports car that came as a joint venture of the Mercedes-Benz and McLaren Automotive. It is dubbed as the fastest automatic transmission car in the world with a minimum price of approximately US$495,000 or €475,000 in 2007. Only 500 cars of this type are produced every year. A lot of greater developments are bound to happen in the Mercedes cars. Hybrid models are bound to be introduced with its future models. With the innovative nature and a reputation for quality put into it by its makers, the Mercedes cars, although a bit expensive is really a good buy. Make sure though that one spends only to the bounds of what he or she can afford. Related Bookmarks
