Mazda is another Japanese car manufacturing company based in the Hiroshima, Japan. Its name is derived from the Zoroastrianism God, Ahura Mazda because the founder of Mazda, Jujiro Matsuda, was a very spiritual person. Its operations started in 1920 as a manufacturing company for machine tools under a different name: Toyo Cork Kogyo Co., Ltd. Last year, Mazda produces about 1.3 million vehicles for export and local sales where majority of which were made in its headquarters in the Japan and several parts coming from some of it distributors all over the world.
In 1920, it started as a company manufacturing machinery tools. However, after a change of name from Toyo Cork Kogyo Co., Ltd to Toyo Kogyo Co., Ltd. In 1927, it set its eyes in to making automobiles. By 1930, it released its first automobile known as the Mazda-Go. Despite that, the continued to make artilleries even supplying Japanese weapons during the second World War. In the early 1960’s, in an effort to differentiate itself from the other Japanese companies, they engineered the Wankel rotary engine. This type of engine that started in the Cosmo Sport in 1967 and has been continuously in use until the current models of this Japanese brand. The formal introduction of any models under the name of Mazda was adopted in 1984. From then on, all models have used the trademark before its names. They formally entered the North American market as Mazda North American Operations in the 1970’s. They successfully penetrated this tough market and even designed the Rotary pick-up. However, the success enjoyed by the company was halted by the oil crisis in 1973. This prompted the company to make the necessary adjustments towards better fuel mileage and fuel efficiency. Thus, the models Capella and Familia were introduced and true enough they helped the company bounce back. However, in 1979, they have sought the help of a new investor, Ford Motor Company. In the 1980’s the have developed a new landscape in motoring with the introduction of their pick-up line. In the 1990’s, they help form design the Explorer – which has turned to be the best selling SUV in the US. Years later, the company went into another slump with the Asian financial crisis. This paved the way for a greater involvement of Ford in the company because of increased stocks shares. This proved to be a good mood because Mazda had a complete turnaround at the start of the new millennium.
The popular models of Mazda include the Speed6, Speed3 and RX 8. The Speed6 and Speed3 are performance-enhanced versions of their predecessor. The Speed 3 is a sport compact hatchback. The RX 8 is another sports car that first appeared in 2001 at the North American International Auto Show.
The future models are not yet definite. However, under the wings of Ford, Mazda well continuously produce quality cars in the future geared towards the normal populace of the sport racing drivers.
