Mercury Marquis Headlights: Find Your Replacement Marquis Headlight Assembly

The Mercury Marquis was a popular car model made by the Mercury division of the Ford Motor Company. The Mercury Marquis was one of the top car models under the Mercury marque. In later years, its sales were declining which explains its discontinuation.

The Mercury Marquis was first released to the American car market in 1967. The car was available as a two door hardtop which remained the only model body available for the Mercury Marquis for the 1987 to 1968 model year. The engines used in the 1967 to 1968 versions of the Mercury Marquis were large and powerful V8 engines. From 1969 to 1972, the Mercury Marquis adopted was to become known as the 'Continental Styling' of the car. At the time, the Mercury Marquis tried to market its cars as a more affordable version of Lincoln cars rather than an upscale version of Ford cars. This time, the Mercury Marquis was available in a number of car bodies which were a two door hardtop, a four door hardtop, a station wagon and a convertible. This was also the first version of the Mercury Marquis to use the hidden headlights which became a trademark of Mercury. The third generation 1973 to 1978 models of the Mercury Marquis was redesigned to a more angled, boxier look. IT was available as either a two door or a four door hardtop. A new trim level, the Grand Marquis was also made available. The fourth generation of the Mercury Marquis, car models 1979 to 1982, were downsized from their traditional sizes. This was in response to the declining market demand for large cars which was due to the slowing down economy and the rising cost of fuel The car was no longer available as a hardtop but was available as a two door sedan, a four door sedan and a four door wagon. The hidden headlights were changed to traditionally placed dual rectangular headlights. The interior of this version of the Mercury Marquis also gained a more Lincoln-like style. The 1983 to 1989 models of the Mercury Marquis were the last generation of the car. The Mercury Marquis ended production by 1986 and was replaced with the Mercury Sable.

The first generation of the Mercury Marquis, the 1967 to 1968 version of the car received V8 engines with large power outputs ranging from 315 to 345 hp. The transmission used for these cars were 3 speed automatics. These cars competed with the muscle cars of the era with their powerful engines, although they were not actually classified as muscle cars but as full size cars. The next generation 'continental' Mercury Marquis received similar engine performances from the previous generation and retained the three speed automatic as well. Newly introduced in this model was the hidden headlights and rear fender skirts which became signature design cues for Mercury and for Lincoln. The 1973 to 1978 Mercury Marquis were available in several V8 engine specifications and the transmission still remained as the 3 speed automatic transmission. The 1979 to 1982 Mercury Marquis is notable in that it was available with a 302 cubic inch Windsor V8 which is highly desirable for collectors today. The last generation of the Lincoln Marquis was available with smaller I4 or V6 engines and the transmission was now available as either 3 speed or 4 speed automatic.

The Mercury Marquis has classic car appeal. In terms of practicality, there are better car models on the second hand car lot.
