The Lincoln Mark VIII was a personal luxury coupe sold by Lincoln, the luxury car marque of the Ford Motor Company. During its production period, the Lincoln Mark VIII received good to average sales in the American car market. The Lincoln Mark VIII was another entry in the personal luxury coupe line of Lincoln. The Lincoln Mark VIII was first introduced into the market by Lincoln in 1993 and was in production up to 1998, its last model year. The Lincoln Mark VIII proved to be the last of the personal luxury coupe models by Lincoln Mark VIII. The Lincoln Mark VIII was made in the Michigan assembly plant of Lincoln located in Wixom, Michigan. The Lincoln Mark VIII was based on the FN10 platform of Ford. It was thoroughly redesigned from its Lincoln Mark VII predecessor. It featured several design changes throughout its production period and new features were regularly added during every model year. The 1995 and 1996 models of the Lincoln Mark VIII were the first cars ever to feature a Direct Current HID headlights. The Lincoln Mark VIII increased somewhat the sales of the personal luxury coupe line of Lincoln which had begun to lag during the last car model years of its predecessor, the Lincoln Mark VII. However, market perception of luxury personal luxury coupes were no longer what it once was and, although earlier models of the Lincoln Mark VIII sold in modest amounts, the later models began to lag in sales and, upon the discontinuation of the Lincoln Mark VIII, Lincoln no longer continued the Lincoln Mark line of cars. The Lincoln Mark VIII was available with a 4.6 litre V8 engine capable of 280 hp which was marketed by Lincoln as the Intech engine. The transmission available for the car was a four speed automatic transmission. The Lincoln Mark VIII retained the front engine rear wheel layout of its predecessors. Later models of the Lincoln Mark VIII in the LSC trim used the same Intech V8 engine but the engine was recalibrated to provide an additional 10 hp output which put the total output of the car at 290hp. The recalibration also provided a true dual exhaust system for the car as well as lowered the gearing layout of the Lincoln Mark VIII to give it a better acceleration profile. Standard features of the car included driver and passenger side airbags, antilock brakes, speed sensitive power steering and all indpendent electronically controlled air spring suspensions. Acceleration for the Lincoln Mark VIII was quite impressive and just kept getting better as the car got into higher speeds. The suspension of the car was also luxury soft, riding over road bumps without a hitch. The steering and braking profile of the Lincoln Mark VIII was also quite impressive. Fuel consumption, however was quite unimpressive. The Lincoln Mark VIII is an impressive luxury coupe. However, it just is not impressive enough. For interested buyers, the Lincoln Mark VIII does have something to offer but other second hand models of the same year and in the same category have even better. Related Bookmarks
