The Lincoln Mark VI was a full size personal luxury coupe made by Lincoln from 1980 up to 1983. The Lincoln Mark VI was released during the height of the economic recession of the eighties but still proved to be a successful model for Lincoln. The Lincoln Mark VI was a smaller model than its predecessor and was also lighter as well. Unlike most of the Mark series which were traditionally offered as two door vehicles, the Lincoln Mark VI was also available as a four door sedan. Although a completely redesigned Mark version, the Lincoln Mark VI still carried many styling cues which were based on the Lincoln Mark V which was available in 1977. Some traditional design cues of the Lincoln Mark series carried in the Lincoln Mark VI include the opera windows which a signature of the Lincoln Mark line of vehicles, the grille which was styled similar to the Rolls-Royce and the vestigial spare tire hump located on the deck lid, another signature of the Lincoln Mark line of vehicles. The Lincoln Mark VI also featured several high tech gadgets which were considered to be cutting edge at the time. The Lincoln Mark VI proved to be one of the vehicles that turned around the sales failure of the Lincoln car marque. At the time, the company was seeing a tremendous decrease to car sales largely due to the economic instability of the time caused by the high price of gasoline. The car market was quite enthusiastic when the newer, more fuel conscious Lincoln cars were introduced and the Lincoln Mark VI achieved high market sales, riding on the positive market response to its release. However, the Lincoln Mark VI suffered from several reliability problems during its production years of 1980, 1981 and 1982 which hurt the sales of the car. The 1983 model of the car proved to be a more reliable vehicle after several modifications were introduced to the car. The Lincoln Mark VI was one of the most luxurious cars of its time. It had a number of high tech features which made it a very popular vehicle back then. The engine used in the Lincoln Mark VI was either a 4.9 litre V8 engine or a 5.8 litre V8 engine. The transmission used for the Lincoln ark VI was a 4 speed automatic. The Lincoln Mark VI had also been decreased in size and new assembly techniques were used on the car as well as new materials so as to lighten the car. The body of the Lincoln Mark VI featured a number of aluminum pieces and the mechanical parts as well. Along with the resizing of the car body, the Lincoln Mark VI lost a significant amount of body weight which contributed to a better performance for the car as well as a lower fuel consumption rating. The Lincoln Mark VI proved to be a good seller for Lincoln. Reliability problems kept it from really getting high marks, however. For a second hand buy, the car does not come highly recommended as there is a large possibility that the buyer might get a problematic model seeing as only the 1983 model of the Lincoln Mark VI really got rid of the reliability concerns of the car. .
