The Mercury Marauder is a name that has been used in three distinct car models of the Mercury line up of cars. The last to use the name was the 2003 to 2004 Mercury Marauder which experienced low sales, hence the short production run.
The first car from Mercury to use the Mercury Marauder name was a full size, V8 engined car which was most popularly known as a two door fastback hardtop though ti was also available as a 4 door sedan. This early model of the Mercury Marauder was sold from 1963 up to 1965, a relatively short production period which seems to be the norm for Mercury Marauder car models. In 1969, another version of the Mercury Marauder was made available. These cars competed in the muscle car market and featured powerful engines typical of muscle car models. This version of the car was, again produced at a very short period and the car was taken off the market in 1970. In 2003, Mercury once again featured a Mercury Marauder. This version of the Mercury Marauder was sold as a high performance version of flagship model of Mercury, the Mercury Marquis">Grand Marquis. The Mercury Marauder aimed to return to its roots as a muscle car and this latest version of the Mercury Marauder was known as a muscle sedan. Sales for the Mercury Marauder was very low which led to the discontinuation of the Mercury Marauder in 2004, again a very short production run. The Mercury Marauder made quite an impact on the car markets with its 'muscle sedan' concept and a number of muscle sedans are now available from other car makers.
The 2003-2004 Mercury Marauder is the last model of the Mercury Marauder. Marketed as a modern muscle car or 'muscle sedan', the 2003-2004 Mercury Marauder featured a powerful engine which was a naturally aspirated DOHC Modular V8 with a displacement of 4.6 litres and a total power output of 302 hp and a torque force of 318 ft-lbf. The platform of the 2003-2004 Mercury Marauder was an updated Ford Panther platform and the car shared many common mechanical parts with the Lincoln Aviator SUV and the Mustang Mach 1. These included the cams, the heads, the compression ratio and the block and rotating assembly. The 2003-2004 Mercury Marauder also had a working dual exhaust system featuring unique tail fins. The transmission available for the car was a 4 speed automatic. On the road, the Mercury Marauder gave plenty of power and had an impressive acceleration and passing power. The suspension of the car is more biased towards a softer ride so that road imperfections are easily smothered and rarely transmit to the vehicle's cabin. The softer suspension does give the car some lean when cornering but not very much. Fuel consumption was extravagant.
The Mercury Marauder gets points for being a rare car. This is true for the earlier versions of the car as well as the latest version. Its powerful package is quite impressive. Aside from the 'rare car' novelty, there is little else that is impressive about this car. Headlights by State: ______________________
