The Lincoln MKX is the mid size crossover SUV market entry of Lincoln, the luxury car marque of the Ford Motor Company. The Lincoln MKX is a modest seller for Lincoln.
The Lincoln MKX is the mid size crossover SUV in the lineup of car models of luxury vehicle maker, Lincoln. The Lincoln MKX was first introduced in 2006, sold as a 2007 model year vehicle. It is related to the Ford Edge and is actually a slightly modified version of that car. Its predecessor is the Lincoln Aviator which received low sales and quick discontinuation. The Lincoln MKX is the first of the Lincoln vehicles to use purely a letter or number combination in its name instead of an actual, traditional name. The original plan of the Lincoln MKX was that the vehicle was actually to be named the Lincoln Aviator as the vehicle was set to be the replacement of that vehicle lineup. During the North American International Auto Show held in Detroit in 2004. the Lincoln MKX was actually introduced as the Lincoln Avatar concept. The name was later changed to the Lincoln MKX. At first, Lincoln insisted that the pronunciation of the name be 'mark X' but this was unpopular among dealers so that the name was finally read in its phonetic form. The Lincoln MKX also got into a legal tangle with Honda over the similarity of the Lincoln MKX name with the Acura MDX, a vehicle produced by Honda's luxury division, Acura. A lawsuit was filed against Ford by Honda in 2008 but the case was settled out of court.
The Lincoln MKX has a 4 door crossover SUV body style and has a front engine front wheel drive layout. A four wheel drive version of the Lincoln MKX is also available. The Lincoln MKX uses the Ford CD3 platform, It has a unibody construction which is different from the body on frame construction of its predecessor, the Lincoln Aviator. The Lincoln MKX carries a Duratec 35 3.5 litre V6 engine capable of an output of 265 hp. The transmission of the Lincoln MKX is a 6 speed automatic. The standard features of the Lincoln MKX include ABS, an antiskid system, traction control, front side airbags, curtainside airbags, heated front seats and voice activated cell phone and MP3 player controls. On the road, the Lincoln MKX has a solid performance profile. The acceleration of the vehicle is quick and ready and the Lincoln MKX performs well both in accelerating from a stand still and in passing at highway speeds. The Lincoln MKX also handles road imperfections quite well. The handling of the Lincoln MKX is a bit disappointing, however, with numb steering. It can take moderate speed cornering quite well, however. Fuel consumption for the Lincoln MKX is at average to below average.
There is little that really makes the Lincoln MKX shine out in the mid size crossover SUV market. It is one of the less than stellar models in that particular vehicle segment and it is, therefore not that interesting for a buyer. For its price, an interested car buyer can get a better package with another model. Headlights by State: ______________________
