The BMW M6 is designed by the BMW motorsport division as a high performance version of the 6-Series. The elegant design of this model that resembles an aggressive shark nose makes it stand out against other model counterparts. The larger air dam, subtle spoiler, and the M badges at the back and on the grille make the M6 distinguisable from other models that use the same E24 chassis. Aside from the design that is available in coupe and convertible models, the M6 also boasts it extra quick performance. The production of the M6 started from 1983 and ended the production of the first generation in 1989. Thorought this short lifespan the M6 has sold 5,855 cars of which 1,767 were North American models. The M6 started in 1983 when BMW combined M88/3 engine from the M1 with the E24 chassis from the BMW 6-Series. They named the output as E24 M635CSi which was shortened to M6 in North America. The original US models of the E24 M6 used the catalyzed S38 motor that is capable of producing 256 hp and 243 ft lbf of torque. No catalyst was used in the European models but their powertrain produced 286 hp and 251 ft lbf of torque. These M6 models were tested and found to perform well in 97km/h time of 6.4 sec. for European and 6.8 sec. for US models. The M6 was also dubbed as one of the Americas top ten fastest cars as featured in the 1987 Road and Track magazine. The Car and Driver Magazine has also tested the US M6 that gave an outstanding 100 km/h time of 6.1 seconds in July 1987. The new generation of M6 was launched in 2005 at the Geneva Motor Show. The new design was based from the BMW E63/E64 6-Series that was launched in 2004. The new M6 use the 507 hp 5.0-liter V10 S85 engine and the same SMG III gearbox used in the E60 M5. The new M6 according to BMW can reach a top speed of 250 km/h using an electronic limiter. Its acceleration is measured to reach a 100 km/h time of 4.6 seconds. The top speed of the M6 without the limiter can reach as high as 330 km/h. The current M6 models are available in coupe and convertible or cabriolet. The exteriors of the M6 coupe and cabriolet are very distinguisable from other models such as the 630i, 650i, and 645Ci. The M6 models have aerodynamic side mirrors, more contoured side sills, and deeper front valance that has air intakes. The M6 has no front fog lights that are common in its counterparts. The new M6 models has front and side mounted airbags both for the driver and the passenger. The interiors of the new M6 models are mostly computers that have individual controls for different computer controlled systems and sophisticated audio systems. When it comes to pleasure and luxury the M6 coupe and cabriolet will surely wont be left behind on your list. The new M6 is one of the top listers in terms of performance and style. .
