The Lexus LX470 is a full size luxury SUV entrant from Lexus, the luxury car division of Toyota. Following the Lexus 450 which proved to be a market failure, the Lexus LX470 fared better in the luxury sport utility vehicle car market. After the Lexus LX450 was discontinued in 1997, the Lexus LX470 followed in its release. This was the second generation of the Lexus LX car model. The Lexus LX470 was still based on the Toyota Land Cruiser and shared a number of mechanical components with the 100 series of the Land Cruiser such as the body panels and the floor plan. The Lexus LX470 differentiated itself from the Land Cruiser through its external design and interior amenities. The exterior of the Lexus LX470 featured a different forward fascia which had a quad light setup. It also had a larger grille than the Land Cruiser and different wheel rims as well. Correcting its mistake with the Lexus LX450 which was known to be underpowered, Lexus gave the Lexus 470 a more powerful V8 engine. The Lexus LX470 received a modest sales upon its release. Car reviewers praised the quality of the vehicle throughout its production years and it was a consistent winner of the Best to Hold Value Award from the Kelley Blue Book. This increased the market perception of the vehicle which soon received a rise in sales. The Lexus LX470 was under production from 1998 up to 2007. By the 2008 model year, it was replaced with the Lexus LX570 The second generation of the Lexus LX car model was a more powerful version of the vehicle than its predecessor, the Lexus LX450. The Lexus LX470 carried a 4.7 liter V8 engine which produced an output of 286 hp with a torque force of 328 ft-lb. The transmission of the vehicle was a 5 speed automatic and all wheel drive was available. Basic features of the Lexus LX included antiskid traction control, 18 inc wheels, 4 wheel disc brakes with antilock and Adaptive Variable Suspension which featured a driver adjustable ride height and shock absorbers. Available optional features of the Lexus LX450 include rain sensing wipers, audio controls located at the rear, steering wheel mounted audio controls, navigation system with voice activations and a Night View system which projected black and white images on the windshield through the use of a nighttime camera and number of light sensors. Acceleration for the Lexus LX470 is quite impressive with its V8 engine. However, it takes a hit in fuel economy and the Lexus LX470 has average to below average fuel economy rating. The suspension of the Lexus LX470 can take a lot of abuse without joggling the passenger. Handling is also quite capable though body lean is there when making quick turns. The AWD compensates real well though and gives the driver plenty of control over the vehicle. Though no class leader, the Lexus LX470 has plenty of features to offer an interested buyer.
