The Lexus LX450 is one of the car models under the Lexus LX line of full size sport utility vehicle. These SUVs are made by Lexus, Toyota's luxury car division. The Lexus LX450 received moderate market sales. The Lexus LX450 marked the entry of luxury car brand Lexus into the full size sport utility vehicle market. It was first introduced in 1996. Unlike the other vehicle models of Lexus which were designed and manufactured exclusively for Lexus, the Lexus LX450 was actually a rebadged version of the Toyota Land Cruiser, a successfully SUV car model from Toyota, the parent company of Lexus. The Lexus LX450 differentiates itself from the Toyota Land Cruiser by its more luxurious styling especially in the interior of the vehicle as well as its softer suspension compared to the more rugged suspension of the Land Cruiser. The Lexus LX450 was targeted to the luxury SUV market. Upon its release, the Lexus LX450 experienced low market sales. Criticisms of the Lexus LX40 cited the low power of the vehicle as one of the major reasons why the Lexus LX450 was a failure as a luxury SUV. This prompted Lexus to shorten the production period of the Lexus LX50 so that the SUV only got two years of production before it was replaced with a newer model. During its production, the Lexus LX450 received praise for its reliability and durability. The Lexus LX450, being based on the Toyota Land Cruiser, shares a lot of mechanical features with that particular car. The Lexus LX450 carried a 4.5 litre 6 cylinder twin cam engine capable of 212 hp. The power plant was mated to a 4 speed automatic transmission with a permanently engaged 4 wheel drive system. The Lexus LX450 also had a softer suspension compared to the Land Cruisers. The standard equipment of the Lexus LX450 included dual airbags, antilock brakes, leather upholstery automatic climate control, wood trims in the interior, high end stereo system and seven seating setup. Optional features included a CD changer, a power moonroof and locking differentials. With the 6 cylinder engine, the Lexus LX450 performed about average on the road. However, fuel consumption for the Lexus LX450 was definitely one of the lowest around. The softer suspension of the Lexus LX450 makes it more composed on the road though its far from what can be expected from a Lexus sedan. Handling is also class average. The high profile of the Lexus LX450 gives it plenty of lean to deal with especially on fast turns. Steering is responsive though a bit dulled. However, the more luxurious amenities do shine through, giving the cabin of the Lexus LX450 less noise than the Land Cruiser. Cabin space is impressive as well. The Lexus LX450 was a failed attempt from Lexus at the luxury car market. The two year production period of the vehicle underlines this fact. The Lexus LX450 is, therefore to be avoided even as a second hand buy with a lower price. There are more affordable SUV models out there. . Headlights by State: ______________________
