The Lincoln LS was a luxury mid size car made by Lincoln, the luxury car division of the American car company Ford Motor Company. The Lincoln LS received excellent market performance in the American car market.
The Lincoln LS was introduced as the replacement of the Lincoln Continental and the Lincoln Mark VIII which were discontinued for the 2002 model year. The Lincoln LS was named as the new entry level luxury car of Lincoln during its initial release in 2000. The 'LS' in the Lincoln LS name is supposed to stand for 'Luxury Sport'. The original naming convention of the car was supposed to be the Lincoln LS6 for the version equipped with the V6 engine and Lincoln LS8 for the version equipped with the V8 engine. However, Toyota complained about the name similarity with its Lexus LS car line and the name was changed to the Lincoln LS V6 for the V6 version and Lincoln LS V8 for the V8 version of the car. However, in most cases the car is usually referred to as the Lincoln LS. The Lincoln LS provided a viable option for American car buyers because of its powerful performance, updated and modernized design and its high level of luxurious features. The Lincoln LS was in production from 2000 up to 2006. It was discontinued with the 2006 car model to make way for the new entry of Lincoln in the luxury car market, the Lincoln MKS.
The Lincoln LS was available with either a V6 or a V8 engine. The V6 version of the Lincoln LS carried a 3.0 litre V6 engine capable of 232hp under the hood. The V8 version of the Lincoln LS, on the other hand had a 3.9 litre V8 engine which was capable of an output of 280 hp. The transmission available for the car was either a 5 speed manual or a 5 speed automatic transmission. The car had a front engine rear wheel drive layout. The standard features of the Lincoln LS included ABS, traction control, front side airbags, curtain side airbags and an antiskid system. Optional equipment included heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, a navigation system, xenon headlamps and power adjustable pedals. On the road, the Lincoln LS proved to be a capable performer. The V6 engine gave adequate acceleration from a full stop, the V8 engine performed predictably better. The manual transmission offered better control of the power of the Lincoln LS's engine. The automatic transmission's performance was less than stellar, changing gears late and hunting. The suspension of the Lincoln LS was composed on most road bumps, though more serious bumps did have the car jittering. Handling was solid with minimal excitement when the car went through corners at turns speeds.
The Lincoln LS is no class leader but it does offer a great set of features. It is a solid performing car but offers little to distinguish it from the other luxury cars in the market. Headlights by State: ______________________
