The Suburban of old made a name for itself and for General Motors. And this line of vehicles is considered as one of the more successful lines of the car maker. The nameplate Suburban is an old one, but makes no mistake about it. The vehicle may be old but still its reputation as a doer still rings true up to this day. And that’s the reason why most people still rely on the Suburban like the K20 Suburban in transporting people and in managing cargoes. The earliest Suburban which was the ancestor of the K20 was introduced back in 1936 and the first one was based on a commercial panel truck. But this Suburban stood out from the rest of the vehicles that were based from the commercial panel truck. That instead of the usual window-less cargo area, the rear end of the vehicle featured a large passenger compartment that can host large number of people. This was the reason why the Suburban and now the K20 was considered as a great help in transporting cargo and passengers. The Suburban of old was powered by the inline six cylinder engines. The K20 Suburban that was offered by GM was simply a four wheel drive model. This was offered starting with the third generation C/K models. This was the time as well when the Suburban was a four-door vehicle. The label K20 will signify as well that the vehicle was issued under Chevy and the vehicle was ¾ ton. The one ton designation was reserved for the C and the K30 of General Motors. The engine that was used by this vehicle was the small-block 350 inch V8 engine and the V8 was optional for the K20. The engine was improved for the next versions with the availability of the big block engine and this engine was usually seen on the two wheel drive three quarter ton models. By 1982 a new version of the vehicle was introduced as well and this was the 6.2L diesel V8 called the Detroit version. This diesel engine soon become the choice of the manufacturer and was used on the Suburbans that were exported to European countries. The Turbo-Hydramatic 400 was used on the K20 ¾ ton version. The passenger capacity of the vehicle and at the same time its ability to tow with efficiency are the reasons that help make the K20 Suburban stand proud if compared to its contemporaries.
