Many pick-up trucks have been produced by General Motors under Chevrolet name, and all these trucks have their own unique advantages and specifications. These trucks that have been produced since 1924 also shared some names and specifications that may prove problematic for some vehicle for some buyers. But the name-calling and the nomenclature used by Chevrolet should not confuse the buying public. Each of the trucks that were produced are named and labeled scientifically like the ones that formed part of the K line of the Chevrolet. And one noteworthy member of the K line was the Chevrolet K20. When the first member of the K line was introduced in the market in 1960, a number of firsts were also introduced by Chevy and General Motors. One first that was introduced by the car maker was the introduction of the new body style for the K20. The on design that played a central role in updating the looks of the pick-up was the drop-center ladder frame. This kind of design intention effectively allowed the cab to drop lower. Also a new suspension was introduced which was the independent front suspension that gave the pick-up a car-like driving convenience. And again the other first that may have caught some other observers unprepared was the adoption of a new name-calling for the vehicles under the C/K class. The designations that were used for short half ton, long half ton and ¾ ton models were scrapped. Instead a new way of naming the pick-ups under the line was used. So the K20 of the K class is a long half ton pick-up truck of Chevrolet. When the pick-up was first introduced, three versions of the vehicle were produced. These versions include the Fleetside or the fendered Stepside. Trim levels were Base and Custom. The years 1962, 1963 and 1965 saw many significant changes on the K20 and other members of the first generation of the C/K class. The year 1962 saw the vehicle adopt the torsion bar suspension matched with the trailing arm suspension for the rear end of the vehicle. The engines used may be of 3.9L, 4.3L or the 4.6L V8 engine. The 3.9L made135 horsepower and the 4.6L on the other hand submitted185 horsepower. Power was already a given on the K20, so manufacturers made some adjustments and updates on the design and aesthetic side of the vehicle. By the year 1964, the vehicle made some significant changes in its exterior appearance. The wraparound design of the windshield was given the exit, in exchange for a new front grille design. Interior appointments were updated as well which included the air conditioning system, making the pick-up truck not just a performer but a convenient ride as well. Related Bookmarks
