Long history is associated with the K15. In fact the lineage of the K15 can be traced to the earliest pickup truck of the Chevrolet that was introduced in the market in 1918. Though the reliable trucks of the Chevrolet have been in existence since that time, the use of the C and K nomenclature was only used in the early 1960s. During this time the usual names was still used and adopted, like the Fleet side and the Step side body styles. And the GMC vehicles of the same style made use of the name Wide side and the Fender side. But significant changes was then introduced by early 1960s and one tweak was done on these vehicles is its front-end design. Tastefully made exterior accessories are also used and fitted on the trucks that were introduced in the 1960s. For example the vehicles made use of the large and the single headlights and the use of these headlights replaced the former dual headlights. The grille of the vehicle was made promising as well thanks to the grille with nine horizontal slots. Trucks that were introduced by this time were either labeled as the C or the K. The C prefix of the name meant that this vehicle was a two-wheel drive vehicle. Vehicles under the C series may come in half ton, quarter ton and one ton. The K label was used to refer to trucks that are considered as the four-wheel drive models. This means that the K15 is a four wheel drive vehicle of Chevrolet. The 15 in the name of the vehicle will refer to the fact that it is a three quarter ton model of the truck. The K15 of Chevy was available in two trims; the base trim and the Custom model. There are only slight differences between the first trim and the second trim. For the custom trim of K15, the vehicle featured the aluminum body side molding and the cloth seating. The custom trim of the K15 when it was offered included three engines. These engines produce135 horsepower, 150 horsepower and the other one has the capability to produce 16 horsepower. The coil spring suspension was used in 1963 and this part replaced the old torsion bar and the egg-crate style of the grill at the front end. New engines were made available for the K15 during this time and the first one was the base engine and the second was made as an option. The base engine for the K15 has the capability to push 140 horsepower and the optional engine can deliver 165 horsepower. The looks of the K15 truck was made fresh thanks to the windshield and the new A-pillar design. The K15 received a number of modifications more after that time and it made the K15 more aesthetically pleasing and of course more powerful. The most important redesign happened from 1988 to 1998, where the 10, 15, 20 and 30 was dropped for the 1500, 2500 and 3500 nomenclature. Though the K15 shed its name, its performance is still familiar to truck enthusiasts. Related Bookmarks
