The base engine for the third generation C/K models that included the K10 was a small-block cubic inch V8 engine. Drivers may opt for the 400 cubic inch V8 engine, and another 454 cubic inch bigger block V8 engine was introduced as well for the third generation. By 1982, another new engine was introduced and this was the 6.2 L diesel V8 beast under the hood. Also Turbo-Hydramatic was also used. To make towing applications easier for the K10 Suburban, towing packages that offered gearing reduction and cooling additions were made available. The presence of this package enabled the vehicle to perform better when it comes to towing activities. Another add-on that made significance in the performance was the choice of electronic fuel injection. With its addition fuel efficiency and performance was improved.
