For decades the name GMC and Chevrolet have been known for their line of full-size pick-up trucks. A number of trucks have been produced by the company and one line that was well-received early on was the C/K line of Chevrolet. Though this specific line was introduced in the market from 1960 until 1998, the very first Chevy truck made its debut in the early 20s. The line is composed of two distinct truck types, and the latter is called the K line where K means vehicle was a four-wheel drive. The base model of the K line was the K10. The buying public saw the first K10 of Chevrolet in the market for the 1960 model year. The production of the vehicle extends up to 1999 when Chevy Silverado HD replaced the model. And in 2001 the heavy duty version of the Silverado was introduced in 2001. The year the K10 was introduced in the market scored many first for the manufacturer. This was the time when a new nomenclature in naming the trucks was adopted. Instead of the usual 3100 that was short for half a ton, the new nomenclature called this a ten. So the Chevy K10 that was introduced in 1960 was actually a half ton pick-up truck. One more significant distinction that separated the K10 from the other members of the C/K line was that this pick-up truck featured short-bed trucks, as opposed to the K15 version that featured long-bed trucks. For the 1962 version of the vehicle, the pick-up made use of the torsion bar front suspension and another trailing arm suspension at the rear end. The K10 was then available in two trims, the Base trim and the Custom trim. Power of the pick-up was based on the engine that can produced up to 135 horsepower for the 3.9 L version and another 150 horsepower for the 4.3L version of engine. A pick-up with V8 engine was also produced and this came with 4.6L and produced up to 185 horsepower. The year 1963 saw the introduction of the coil-spring front suspension along with a new engine. For the year 1964, the style of the cab was replaced. Designers also eliminated the wraparound design of the windshield and a new front grille design was adopted and with many other interior changes. Complementing the engine performance of the K10 was new look for the exterior, the ones that were introduced in 1963. And of course by 1965, air conditioning was introduced making it more convenient for the driver and the passenger of the K10. This first generation pick-up of the C/K line introduced many firsts, and continued to have many other add-ons until 1999. Related Bookmarks
