The Infiniti J30 was the luxury car entrant of the Infiniti car company from 1992 to 1997. The car replaced the Infiniti M30 and was positioned between the Infiniti Q45 and the Infiniti G20.
The Infiniti J30 was first introduced in April of 1992 as a model 1993 car. The car was in continuous production until 1993. Replacing the Infiniti M30, the Infiniti J30 was positioned as a direct competitor of the Lexus GS. The proportions of the car was that of the a mid size sedan. However, it was well known to have one of the smallest interior spaces even though it was a mid size sedan car. This was because the Infiniti J30 featured a fairly unusual design. The car had very rounded features. This also gave the car a sloping roofline which subtracted significantly from the cabin space of the car. The trunk of the Infiniti J30 was also unusually small for its class. The Infiniti J30 was performed quite well on the roads, giving excellent power and maneuverability. Many of the supporters of the Infiniti J30 say that the car carries just the right blend of sporty performance and luxurious ride. However, the car still failed to stand out among the luxury 4 door sedans. It didn't have anything which captured the market's imagination which is ultimately the reason why the Infiniti J30 didn't succeed as well as it could have.
The Infiniti J30 featured a front engine, rear drive layout. The engine of the car was a VG30DE V6 3.0 litre engine connected to a four speed automatic transmission. A manual transmission option is not available for the Infiniti J30. The engine produced a powerful 210 hp. Standard features of the Infiniti J30 included driver and passenger side airbags and 4 wheel disc brakes with antilock system. An Infiniti J30t model was also available. This was the "touring" model of the Infiniti J30. this model still retained the engine and transmission of the J30 but it had a firmer suspension and a HICAS 4 wheel steering system. Other add-ons of the J30t included a rear spoiler and high performance tires mounted on forged alloy rims. The overall performance of the Infiniti J30 was quite good. The powerful V6 engine produced plenty of acceleration and speed, great for highway driving. However, the transmission was inadequate, often robbing the car of speed when quick downshifting is needed. The suspension is also generally good. The car can corner quite well and is acceptably forgiving when riding over road bumps. Handling of the Infiniti J30 is more balanced and controlled than those of its competitors mainly due to the rear wheel layout of the car.
Not available as a new model, the Infiniti J30 can mostly be found at second hand car dealers. The valuation of the car should be at the low end by now as the car is relatively old. The Infiniti J30 can definitely deliver value for the money. However, buyers should be aware that the Infiniti J30 is a bit of a gas guzzler.Headlights by State: ______________________
