The Isuzu Impulse was a sport compact produced by the Isuzu car company. The car was first introduced in 1981 and was available as either a 3 door hatchback or a 2 door station wagon. The Isuzu Impulse enjoyed success in the car market.
The Isuzu Impulse went through two generations during its production life time. The first generation of the Isuzu Impulse were available in the US car market from 1981 to 1989. This generation of the Isuzu Impulse went through several upgrades during its production years. The first generation Isuzu Impulse is also notable for being offered as an "everything standard" car. This meant that all Isuzu Impulse models shared the same equipment available for the specific model year. Trims available were limited to two, the Turbo trim and the non turbo trim. Special edition Isuzu Impulse cars were created from time to time, notable of which is the 1987 Isuzu Impulse RS model. The second generation of the Isuzu Impulse was available from 1990 to 1992. This generation of the car saw a complete redesign of the car. Under GM, the Isuzu Impulse was introduced with several features available. Notably, the Isuzu Impulse also received special tuning from Lotus which was also partly owned by GM at the time. The Isuzu Impulse actually received several technical updates from Lotus. The Isuzu Impulse was quite a successful car model for Isuzu. The first generation sold quite well and the second generation of the Isuzu Impulse was also on its way to being one of the more successful cars in its class as well. However, changes in the economy of Isuzu's home country of Japan and the heavy safety and emission requirements imposed on the car market in the US severely challenged the market standing of the Isuzu Impulse. The market segment restrictions imposed by GM on the car also made it less than palatable to car buyers which ultimately led to the removal of the Impulse from the car market in 1992.
The Isuzu Impulse was one of the most stable and powerful cars of its class during its production period. The car benefited from several technical innovations which greatly improved the car's performance on the road and made it highly competitive in the car market. The first generation of the car was designed by Giorgetto Guigiaro and was received warmly by car critics. The Isuzu Impulse made available in 1981 featured either a 2 litre I4 SOHC engine with 120 hp or a 2 litre I4 DOHC engine with 135 hp. Transmission for the car was available as either five speed manual or 4 speed automatic. The Isuzu Impulse was only available as a rear wheel drive car. During the following years, the car received many upgrades such as a turbocharged SOHC engine and suspension redesigns. The second generation of the Isuzu Impulse featured a DOHC I4 1.6 litre engine with an output of 130 hp. This time around, the car was front wheel driven. The car also received the Nsihiboric passive steering system and several suspension upgrades and redesigns from Lotus. Performance wise, the car was quick and fun to drive. Handling was pretty impressive with the car sticking to the ground even in quick turns and steering was also very responsive.
The Isuzu Impulse was quite an impressive car during its time. These days, the car maybe available only at second hand car dealers. The car would still be a good buy today and would find perfect use as a daily driver. However, the outdated design and performance would make it less than impressive in the market. Still, the price of the car would be on the low side and the Isuzu Impulse also had good fuel efficiency which is necessary in this age of high fuel prices.Headlights by State: ______________________
