The Isuzu I-350 replaced the Isuzu Hombre, the first of the I series of pickup trucks from Isuzu, the Isuzu i-350 was launched during the New York International Auto Show of 2005. The I-350 was followed by several other I models but sales for the Isuzu I series have been relatively low and the production of the I series has been set to end by 2009.
The Isuzu i-350 is again based on a platform shared with the mid size pickups of GM, similar to the Isuzu Hombre. The Isuzu i-350 was also given adequate engines and the suspension and other underpinnings also give the pickup truck a stable stance. The Isuzu i-350 generally performs well, having enough power, stability and agility to compete with other vehicles in its class. However, the Isuzu i-350 did have areas where improvements could have been made. The Isuzu i-350 did not have as much features to offer as the other similar GM pickup truck models. The interior of the Isuzu i-350, more specifically the passenger seats, are also cramped especially for bigger adults and is more comparable to a sedan than to a pickup truck. The dashboard of the Isuzu I-350 also showed low quality materials. The Isuzu I-350 is generally a good pickup truck. However, the truck suffers from a lack of polish and the low perception of the Isuzu car brand led to slow sales.
The Isuzu i-350 was released along with the Isuzu i-280 in 2006. the Isuzu i-280 was the lesser powered model having a 2.8 litre LK5 I4 Atlas engine producing 175 hp. The Isuzu i-350 had the more powerful 2.5 litre L52 I5 Atlas engine which produced 220 hp. The Isuzu i-350 also featured 4 wheel drive with an automatic transmission. Other base features of the Isuzu i-350 include curtain side airbags, cloth upholstery, power windows, power mirrors, power locks, three passenger rear bench and bucket seats for the front. Optional features included leather upholstery and heated power front seats. The Isuzu i-350 also performed quite well with powerful acceleration, the automatic transmission quite adept at quick shifting. Handling is also quite impressive and the Isuzu i-350 featured minimal body roll on turns. Fuel consumption is also about average for a vehicle in its class.
The Isuzu i-350 is a capable truck which should have seen better sales than it experienced. Slow sales were most likely due to the less polished features of the Isuzu i-350 although performance was quite competitive. The low perception of the Isuzu brand and concerns over long term support of the truck also hurt its sales. The Isuzu i-350 should be available in the resale market at relatively low prices.Headlights by State: ______________________
